Features the latest V8 engine, npm package manager, build-essential for native modules, and security hardening. Optimized for AWS Graviton instances with better price-performance. Launch a production-ready Node.js server in minutes.

    Overview

Node.js 22 on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (ARM64) provides a fully configured, production-ready environment optimized for AWS Graviton (ARM-based) instances. Built on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Long Term Support) with security updates guaranteed through 2029, this AMI delivers better price-performance compared to x86 equivalents.

This AMI includes Node.js 22 pre-installed with the latest V8 engine, npm package manager, and build-essential toolchain for compiling native modules. Nginx is pre-configured as a reverse proxy for production use, and PM2 process manager provides cluster mode, automatic restarts, and log management. Ubuntu 24.04 LTS provides access to one of the largest package ecosystems, making it easy to install additional dependencies.

    Key components included:

    • Node.js 22 runtime (latest V8 engine, ARM64 optimized)
    • npm package manager
    • Nginx reverse proxy and web server
    • PM2 process manager (cluster mode, auto-restart, log rotation)
    • build-essential (gcc, g++, make) for native module compilation
    • Python 3 (required by node-gyp)
    • Git version control
    • ca-certificates and curl

The system is security hardened following best practices. SSH access uses key pair authentication only. Unnecessary services have been removed to reduce the attack surface. Automatic security updates are enabled via unattended-upgrades.

This AMI is suitable for web application backends, REST APIs, microservices, real-time applications, WebSocket servers, serverless function development, CLI tools, and general Node.js development workflows on ARM-based AWS instances.

    Highlights

    • ARM64 optimized - Built for AWS Graviton instances (t4g, c7g, m7g) with up to 40% better price-performance compared to x86 equivalents.
    • Production-ready stack - Node.js 22 with Nginx reverse proxy and PM2 process manager pre-configured. Deploy to production in minutes, not hours.
    • Ubuntu LTS stability - Built on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS with security updates guaranteed through 2029, providing a stable and well-supported platform.
