    Overview

Cloud-native applications, built with multiple components that can span clusters and even cloud providers, are quickly replacing monolithic applications. As application workloads move from development to production, IT often requires multiple fit-for-purpose Kubernetes clusters to support continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) of modern software pipelines.

Cluster sprawl continues as organizations add new clusters configured for specific workloads, placing an increasing strain on traditional IT processes and methodologies. Operations teams need to address a number of scenarios, including:

    • Distributed applications that require fast response time and low latency.
    • Meeting industry standards and geopolitical requirements associated with data residency.
    • Disaster recovery plans that include application movement with data sync.
    • Edge deployments.
    • Capital expenditure (CapEx) cost reduction.
    • Avoiding vendor lock-in.

Whether organizations are getting started with a single cluster or are already operating in a multicluster environment, there are many challenges.

Single Cluster: Organizations may want to define configurations and allow multiple team members access to the cluster. This can lead to configuration drift, making them difficult to enforce as organizations scale. Building and deploying applications to a production cluster is typically a manual and error-prone step.

Multiple Clusters: It is time-consuming, error prone, and difficult to manage clusters and their configurations, as organizations contend with multiple consoles, distributed business applications, and inconsistent security controls across diverse clusters deployed on-premise and in public clouds.

Geographically Distributed Clusters: Complexity grows when dealing with regional and geo-specific regulations. Organizations need to holistically manage their fleet, whether it is a small business always catering to the local market or a multinational financial institution with many datacenters and geo-political boundaries to navigate.

Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management for Kubernetes offers end-to-end management, visibility, and control of your Kubernetes investment. It allows you to control the full application lifecycle and desired state configuration and security across multiple datacenters and public cloud environments. Clusters and containerized applications are all visible and managed from a single console, with preconfigured security policies that can be applied consistently, anywhere in the open hybrid cloud. Deploy, run, and move applications automatically across public and private domains based on your specific metadata. Run your operations from anywhere on Red Hat OpenShift, and manage other supported Kubernetes clusters in your fleet.

    Highlights

    • Unified Multicluster Lifecycle Management - Customers can create, update, and destroy Red Hat OpenShift and import and manage *KS clusters reliably, consistently, and at-scale using an open source programming model that supports and encourages Infrastructure as Code (IaC) best practices and design principles via GitOps.
    • Customers can apply a Kubernetes desired state policy-based governance approach to automatically monitor and ensure best practices for controls related to security, resiliency, and software engineering. These controls are linked to industry compliance standards using built-in templates or self-imposed corporate standards, and convey security audit posture to the Security Operations team.
    • Customers can give operations teams a better experience with multicluster dashboards from industry-standard open source tooling and provide an overview of fleet health and optimization. Get an overview of multicluster health and optimization using out-of-the-box multicluster dashboards with the ability to store long-term data Get an aggregated view of cluster metrics and alerts centralized at the hub, along with the ability to customize the metrics and dashboards.

What do you dislike about the product?
This comes with a price and i feel there should be a free version for small enterprises.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have Kubernetes clusters across multiple cloud providers and RHACM help me manage them from a single dashboard, reducing time, effort and hassle to mange them seperately. I also use it for enforcing policies across clsuters to ensure compliance.
