Run a pruned Bitcoin node on AWS with this production-ready image, fully synced with the bitcoin blockchain but pruned to save disk space. It is designed for a highly available production environment and contributes to the overall security of the Bitcoin network.
Built using full automation and comprehensive testing, this cli-only, minimal image implements Bitcoin Core best practices and utilizes cryptographically verifiable binaries from bitcoincore.org. The bitcoind service runs automatically at boot as a native Ubuntu service, ensuring smooth operation.
The Pruned Bitcoin Node offers the following features:
Released monthly with a fully synchronized bitcoin blockchain
bitcoind is running in pruned mode and uses less than 10GB of disk space
Optimized to run on ARM-based Graviton instances
Running Ubuntu 24.04 and bitcoin core 29.2
Built, tested, and released with comprehensive automation and testing

AWS Pruned Bitcoin Node - Fully Synced + Released Monthly + Graviton CPU
You pay by the hour for the software running on your chosen AWS Graviton instance. Pricing scales with the ARM-based instance type you select. Options span several instance families, including general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, and high-memory choices. Within each family, sizes range from small (medium, large) up to metal, so hourly cost rises as you pick more vCPUs and memory. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs. The node itself is identical across all instance types; the type only sets your capacity and hourly rate.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What resources does one hour of the smallest recommended instance provide for running this node?
The vendor recommends the c7g.medium size, which provides 1 dedicated vCPU and 2GB of memory. That meets the minimum needed to run a pruned bitcoind node. You also need at least a 20GB volume; bitcoind uses about 6GB and the system about 2GB initially.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or powered off?
You pay the hourly software rate only while the instance runs. Stopped or powered-off instances do not accrue software charges. Note that AWS may still bill underlying storage for attached volumes even when the instance is stopped. The software meter tracks running hours only.
Do I need to buy a specific instance size, or can I pick a smaller family member?
You choose any listed Graviton instance type and size. Every option runs the same node software. The vendor recommends compute-optimized c7g family sizes, with medium sufficient for a pruned node. Selecting more vCPUs or memory raises your hourly rate but does not change node function.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Version release notes
