Why Kamailio, and why this image
Kamailio (formerly OpenSER) routes thousands of call setups per second on modest hardware. It is the standard open source choice for SIP registrars, proxy layers and least cost routing front ends. This image removes the two barriers that slow real deployments: module and database assembly, and the security work needed before a SIP port can safely face the internet. SIP services are scanned within minutes of coming online; this image assumes that from the start.

Sizing guidance
Kamailio is CPU light for signalling. Evaluation and small deployments: t3.small. Production proxy or registrar: t3.medium or t3.2xlarge. High registration churn or large routing tables benefit from memory, not cores.

Quick Start:
- SSH in as ubuntu; configuration lives in /etc/kamailio/kamailio.cfg (tools: kamctl, kamcmd).
- fail2ban is active (sshd + kamailio jails) whitelist your admin IP first: sudo fail2ban-client set sshd addignoreip <your-ip>.
