ClusterValidator is an MCP server that lets AI agents and administrators validate Windows Server Failover Clusters, including SQL Server Failover Cluster Instances, on demand. It runs 16 read-only diagnostic phases across quorum and witness, shared storage, networking, and node configuration, then returns a clear pass, warn, or fail verdict with a signed HTML report. Install it in your own environment and point your AI assistant, your MCP client, or a PowerShell 7 session at it. It never writes to your cluster, and nothing leaves your network.
Failover clusters fail quietly. Quorum drifts, a LUN loses its persistent reservation, one node misses a hotfix, an MPIO path disappears. Nothing alerts, because nothing is down yet. The cluster looks healthy right up to the moment it has to fail over, and then it does not.
ClusterValidator is a point-in-time validation tool for Windows Server Failover Clustering, built as an MCP server so an AI agent can call it directly. It runs 16 read-only diagnostic phases against a live cluster and reports what it finds: quorum model and witness configuration, shared storage and LUN hygiene, SCSI-3 persistent reservations, MPIO path counts and redundancy, cluster networks and heartbeat configuration, hotfix parity across nodes, node identity and naming consistency, cluster service account configuration, time synchronization drift, pending reboots, VMware host placement confirming clustered VMs are not colocated on one ESXi host, a wrapped Test-Cluster run, and a forensic snapshot of cluster state for your records.
FIVE CALLABLE TOOLS
run_cluster_validation, get_validation_result, get_phase_findings, export_cluster_report, and get_phases. Point an MCP client at the server and your agent can run a validation, read the findings phase by phase, and export a report without you writing a line of glue code.
TWO WAYS TO INSTALL
The validator is a .NET tool that does the work and holds the license. Install it from NuGet:
That is all you need if you are driving it from an AI assistant or any MCP client.
Prefer PowerShell? Also install the client module from the PowerShell Gallery:
Install-Module ClusterValidator.MCP
Then call the cmdlets directly from PowerShell 7. No AI assistant required. The module is a thin client for the validator, not a replacement for it, so install the validator as well.
REQUIREMENTS
Windows, .NET, and WinRM and CIM line of sight to your cluster nodes. The Failover Clustering feature must be present, since ClusterValidator wraps Test-Cluster. The PowerShell client additionally needs PowerShell 7.0 or later.
RUNS WHERE YOUR CLUSTER RUNS
ClusterValidator runs on your own workstation, next to the cluster it is checking. Its only network traffic is WinRM and CIM to your cluster nodes and LDAP to your domain controller, all inside your environment. No cluster data, findings, node names, or telemetry ever leave your network. Licenses are verified offline against a cryptographic signature, so it keeps working in disconnected environments where agent-based monitoring platforms cannot be installed at all. Reports are written to local disk.
WHAT THIS IS NOT
ClusterValidator validates the Windows failover cluster itself, including the cluster beneath a SQL Server failover cluster instance. It does not configure or remediate anything, and it does not validate SQL Server Always On availability groups or Kubernetes.
HOW LICENSING COUNTS
Each tier allows a number of distinct clusters per month. Re-validating a cluster you have already checked this month does not count against the allowance again.
Built by Detent Point, LLC. PowerShell and SQL Server tooling for the AI-agent era.
Highlights
Five callable MCP tools - run_cluster_validation, get_validation_result, get_phase_findings, export_cluster_report, get_phases - so an AI agent can validate a cluster and read the findings without custom integration code. Works equally well from PowerShell 7 with no AI assistant in the loop.
16 read-only diagnostic phases in one run: quorum and witness, shared storage and LUN hygiene, SCSI-3 persistent reservations, MPIO path redundancy, cluster networks and heartbeat, hotfix parity across nodes, service accounts, time drift, pending reboots, VM host placement, and a wrapped Test-Cluster pass. It never writes to your cluster.
Runs entirely on your workstation. Its only network traffic is WinRM and CIM to your nodes and LDAP to your domain controller. No cluster data, findings, or telemetry ever leave your network, and licenses validate offline, so it works in disconnected environments.
AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on the duration and terms of your contract with the vendor. This entitles you to a specified quantity of use for the contract duration. If you choose not to renew or replace your contract before it ends, access to these entitlements will expire.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
These five contract tiers scale by how many distinct clusters you can validate each month. Free covers up to 2 clusters, Starter up to 5, Professional up to 20, and Enterprise up to 100. Enterprise Plus removes the cap for unlimited validations. Every tier includes the same 16-phase check suite and signed HTML report, so you are paying for validation volume, not different features. Support and licensing rise with each tier: community support at Free, email at Starter, priority email at Professional, and priority support with volume or site-wide licensing at the two Enterprise tiers.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What counts as one distinct cluster for the monthly validation limit?
Each Windows Server Failover Cluster you validate counts as one distinct cluster. Re-running a cluster you already validated that month does not count again. Only new, previously unvalidated clusters draw against your monthly limit.
What happens if I reach my tier's monthly cluster limit?
Each tier caps how many distinct clusters you validate per month. When you hit that cap, you move to the next tier to validate more clusters. Enterprise Plus removes the cap entirely, allowing unlimited validations. Re-running already-validated clusters that month stays free of the count.
What does ClusterValidator not validate, and what does it require to run?
It validates SQL Server Failover Cluster Instances on Windows Server Failover Clustering with SAN or storage-cluster setups. It does not validate container-orchestration clusters or SQL Server availability groups. It runs on Windows only, needs remote management reachability to cluster nodes, and requires the Failover Clustering feature installed.
