AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance size you run. The 17 options are not feature tiers; they are the same OpenVas software deployed on different virtual machine types. Prices scale with the compute resources of each instance. Smaller instances like t3.medium, t3a.medium, and m4.large suit lighter workloads. Larger instances like m4.16xlarge, m4.10xlarge, and t3.2xlarge provide more compute for heavier scanning. Billing runs per hour, so your cost depends on which instance you choose and how long you keep it running. You deploy it directly through AWS Marketplace.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or powered off?
Hourly software charges apply only while the instance runs. A stopped or powered-off instance stops accruing software fees. You may still pay underlying AWS storage costs for the attached volumes, but the OpenVas software meters running hours only.
What determines which instance type I should pick for OpenVas?
Each option runs the same OpenVas software on a different EC2 virtual machine. Instance types differ in CPU and memory. Smaller types like t3.medium suit lighter scans. Larger types like m4.16xlarge handle heavier scanning workloads. Your hourly cost follows the compute resources of the type you choose.
Can I switch to a different instance type after deployment?
Each instance type is billed separately at its own hourly rate. To move to another type, you launch a new instance of that type through AWS Marketplace. Billing follows whichever instance is running. Contact the vendor for guidance on migrating your setup between instance types.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
