This product has charges associated with it for the build, maintenance, and support of the Amazon Machine Image (AMI).DuckDB is an embeddable SQL OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) database management system designed for analytical querying. It's particularly optimized for analytical workloads on columnar data. DuckDB is written in C++ and aims to provide high-performance querying while maintaining a minimal footprint.DuckDB has no external dependencies, neither for compilation nor during run-time.

    Overview

This is a repackaged open-source software product wherein additional charges apply for support and for providing it in a simple consumable AMI.DuckDB is an in-process analytical database that's designed to handle large datasets and complex queries efficiently. It's intended to be an alternative to data warehouses, providing high performance without the same level of complexity or cost. It stores data in a compressed columnar format, which provides the best performance for large-scale aggregations. This is in contrast to a transactional database, which is optimized for high-frequency writes and typically stores data as rows (tuples) to support that.DuckDB has no external dependencies, neither for compilation nor during run-time. DuckDB does not run as a separate process but completely embedded within a host process.

    Dimensions summary

You pay by the hour for a preconfigured DuckDB image running on Windows Server 2022. Pricing follows the AWS EC2 instance size you launch, so the software rate scales with compute capacity. The T2 and T3 families cover burstable general-purpose sizes, from nano through 2xlarge. The M6a and M7a families cover steady general-purpose sizes, from large through 12xlarge. Charges accrue only while an instance runs, and hourly software fees appear alongside AWS infrastructure costs. Choose a size to match your workload; there are no tiers or upfront commitments here.

    Top-of-mind questions for buyers

Each hourly rate maps to one running EC2 instance of the size you pick. The size sets the CPU cores and memory available. T2 and T3 sizes offer burstable performance; M6a and M7a offer steady performance. The DuckDB software and preloaded tools come installed on every size.
The hourly software fee accrues only while an instance runs. A stopped instance stops the software charge. Stopped instances may still incur AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but those are separate AWS infrastructure costs, not the software rate you see here.
You pay the hourly rate tied to whichever size runs. Moving to a size with more CPU and memory raises the hourly software fee. There are no tiers or thresholds to cross. The charge simply follows the size you launch, hour by hour.

    Amazon Machine Image (AMI)

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
