Smaller sizes like nano, micro, and medium cost less per hour, while larger sizes such as 48xlarge and metal variants cost more. You choose the instance that fits your workload, and billing reflects that choice and your total run hours. The software itself is a hardened, security-configured image.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
One unit is one running instance of the hardened image on the ARM-based instance type you select, billed per hour. The rate reflects that instance size. Running two instances of the same type bills two hourly rates in parallel. Each distinct instance meters its own run hours.
Software charges apply per running instance-hour. A stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. You may still owe separate AWS infrastructure fees, such as storage for the instance volume, but the image itself meters only active running time.
Each instance type carries its own hourly rate. Charges bill independently and add together on one invoice. Your total is the sum of each type's rate multiplied by its run hours. Larger sizes and metal variants raise the per-hour rate, so instance choice and run time both drive cost.

Connecting to the Virtual Machine
To connect to your instance, use SSH over port 22. The default username for this image is ec2-user.

Security Configuration
This image is pre-hardened with over 200 security controls applied by default. No additional setup or configuration is required after launch.

Accessing Docker
Docker is pre-installed on this instance.
To confirm Docker is installed, open a terminal and run the following command: docker --version
This will display the installed Docker Engine version.
To run a sample container, use this command: docker run hello-world
This command will pull a test image from Docker Hub and launch a container to verify that Docker is working correctly. You should see a message confirming that Docker is operational.
