This is a usage-based add-on billed per vCPU per host hour. You pay only for the read replica compute you run, measured hourly. Pricing is not tiered by size or volume. Instead, the rate varies by AWS Region. Each dimension represents the same per-vCPU hourly charge in a specific Region, such as N. Virginia, Ohio, Frankfurt, Tokyo, or Sydney. Your cost depends on where you deploy and how many vCPUs your replicas use. Charges appear on your AWS bill, so existing AWS credits and discount programs apply.

What counts as one vCPU for read replica billing?
A vCPU is one virtual CPU core assigned to a read replica instance. You are billed per vCPU per host hour. If a replica uses more vCPUs, your hourly charge scales with that count. Running multiple replicas multiplies the vCPU hours you accrue.
Am I charged when a read replica is stopped or idle?
Billing is measured in host hours, so charges accrue only while a read replica runs. A fully stopped replica does not add software host-hour charges. Underlying AWS storage or infrastructure fees may still apply separately, but the per-vCPU rate meters running time only.
Why does the per-vCPU rate differ across AWS Regions?
Each dimension applies the same per-vCPU, per-host-hour structure, but the rate is set per AWS Region. Your cost depends on which Region hosts your read replicas, such as N. Virginia, Frankfurt, or Tokyo. Deploying in a different Region changes the rate you pay per vCPU hour.
