Overview
Kurians Linux operating systems AMIs are patched and up-to-date on the day of the release, and the updates are published every quarter. These AMIs are ideal to be used in automated provisioning processes such as that in an auto-scale group without having to worry about the availability of latest patches and the delay of applying those before adding the machines to a cluster.
Based on this baseline operating system, Kurian has released pre-configured software applications such as Wordpress, Jenkins, databases, LAMP stack, Ansible, DevOps tools, and monitoring applications that are widely used by system administrators and DevOps engineers. For selected Linux distributions hardened images based on CIS benchmark are also available. The Kurian AMIs are built following official installation steps so you do not need to learn any custom procedures.

Each dimension maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type, from small burstable sizes up to large multi-core, memory, GPU, storage, and bare-metal machines. The image ships with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 patched and up-to-date on the day it is released. The vendor publishes updated images every quarter. This lets you launch instances in automated provisioning, like auto-scale groups, without waiting to apply the latest patches first.
The software charge meters running instance-hours only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software rate. You may still pay underlying AWS charges, such as storage for the attached volume, while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
Each dimension is the hourly software rate for one running EC2 instance of that specific type. You are billed per instance-hour for the type you launch. Larger instance types carry higher hourly rates. If you move a workload to a different instance type, your rate changes to match that type.

Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.7 (Ootpa) updated with latest OS patches as of January 31st, 2025. The AMI is loaded with core tools for automation like Python 2 & 3, curl, aws cli etc. The root disk is loaded with 30G GP3 storage. The instances created from this AMI are ideal for adding to automated clusters and ASG as they need minimal or no additional configuration.

Usage instructions
- Spin up new instances using one-click from AWS console or aws cli or autoscaling options as your infrastructure provisioning process requires.
- SSH into the new instance as the default OS user ec2-user to perform additional configurations.
- Customers can use this AMI to build applications. It is up to the application developers where and how to store any sensitive information and to encrypt data in rest and transit and, for any such requirements, the customers may have to customize this AMI to meet the needs as determined by the working of the applications.
- The AMI does not store any passwords or keys and it is up to the customers to rotate the secrets if that would be added as part of the customization. The AMI does not have any encrypted data that is needed for any build process.
