Overview
The BoxLang core, on its own, doesn't have knowledge about a web application. Our web support runtime provides this functionality, which is a crucial part of the MiniServer and the Servlet (JEE, Jakarta, CommandBox) runtime. This runtime enhances the core boxlang runtime, making it multi-runtime and web deployable.
There is no servlet container; the web server is just a simple, fast, and pure Java Undertow server. We will use the boxlang-miniserver binary to start servers.

You pay by the hour for a pre-configured BoxLang runtime on an Ubuntu virtual machine. Pricing is not tiered by features. Instead, each dimension maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type, and every instance runs the same software image. Your hourly rate depends only on the instance size and family you pick. Smaller instances like t2.nano cost less per hour; large or specialized instances such as GPU, memory-optimized, or bare-metal types cost more. You pay only for the hours you run, with no upfront commitment. Choose the instance that matches your workload's compute, memory, or storage needs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each instance runs the BoxLang Miniserver runtime on an Ubuntu virtual machine. The image is pre-configured, so BoxLang is ready to run when the instance starts. You do not install or set up the runtime yourself. The same image runs on every instance type you choose.
Software charges accrue only while the instance runs. When you stop the instance, the hourly software fee stops too. You pay only for the hours the instance is active. Note that underlying AWS storage or other AWS resources may still bill separately while an instance is stopped.
Your rate is tied to the instance type you launch, not to feature usage. To handle more load, you switch to a different instance type, and its hourly rate applies from that point. There is no automatic tier jump. You control cost by picking the instance size that fits your compute, memory, or storage needs.
