OpenBao Vault is a standalone, open-source secret management platform designed to safeguard sensitive data, credentials, and encryption keys. Built as a community-driven fork of Hashicorp Vault and managed by the Linux Foundation, OpenBao retains the core features that make Vault a trusted solution while extending its flexibility for broader community engagement and innovation.
This AWS-ready version of OpenBao Vault all in one standalone instance enables you to easily test and evaluate the capabilities of this fork in a cloud environment. It offers robust security for your secrets, supports a wide range of authentication methods, and simplifies the management of secrets across dynamic infrastructure. Its powerful features, such as encryption-as-a-service and advanced access controls, make it ideal for securing your AWS workloads.

See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance type you choose to run this software. Each dimension maps to a specific AWS instance size, so pricing scales with the compute capacity you select. Smaller instances like t2.nano or t3.micro carry lower hourly rates, while larger memory, compute, storage, and accelerated instances such as u-24tb1.112xlarge or p5.48xlarge carry higher rates. The software runs on a single instance that bundles all OpenBao components. You control cost by matching the instance size to your workload. There is no separate license fee beyond the hourly instance charge.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly charge cover for this software?
Each hourly rate covers one running EC2 instance of the type you pick. That single instance holds all OpenBao components plus the web console. You pay for each hour the instance runs. The rate rises or falls with the instance size you select for your workload.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or powered off?
The hourly software charge applies while the instance runs. A stopped instance stops the hourly software charge. AWS may still bill you for attached storage on a stopped instance, but that is a separate AWS resource fee, not the software charge.
If I switch to a larger instance type, how does my bill change?
You pay the hourly rate tied to whichever instance type runs. Moving from a smaller type to a larger one changes the rate for every hour after the switch. The change is not automatic; you choose the instance type when you launch or relaunch the software.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources.
