You pay by the hour based on the AWS EC2 instance type you choose to run this bastion. Each dimension maps to a specific instance size, so your rate scales with the compute, memory, or specialized hardware that instance provides. Smaller general-purpose instances carry lower hourly rates, while larger compute-, memory-, storage-, or accelerator-optimized instances carry higher rates. You select one instance type to fit your workload and capacity needs. Billing runs hourly for as long as the instance runs, with no upfront commitment. The software itself is packaged as a ready-to-launch image that combines the database, controller, and worker.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the hourly rate I pay for a given instance type actually cover?
The rate covers the software image, which packages a PostgreSQL database, a Boundary controller, and a Boundary worker on one instance. You choose one EC2 instance type, and the hourly software rate reflects that instance size. Underlying AWS compute charges are separate and set by AWS.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or powered off?
The hourly software charge applies while the instance runs. When you stop the instance, the software stops metering. Note that a stopped instance's public address can change on restart, which may require reconfiguring the worker address. Underlying AWS storage fees may still apply while stopped.
If my workload grows, how do I move to a larger instance type?
You select a different instance type when you launch. Each type maps to its own hourly rate, so moving to a larger size changes your rate to that instance's listed price. There is no upfront commitment, so you can pick the size that fits your current capacity needs.
