You pay by the hour for this hardened Ubuntu 22.04 image, billed only for the time each instance runs. The many dimensions represent different EC2 instance types, not feature tiers. Each option maps to a specific instance size and hardware profile — general-purpose, compute, memory, storage, or GPU families. Larger instances carry more vCPU, memory, or specialized hardware, so the hourly rate scales with the instance you select. The software itself is the same across all options; you choose the instance that fits your workload and pay AWS infrastructure costs separately.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one billing unit represent for this image?
You are billed per instance-hour. One unit equals one running EC2 instance of the type you select, for one hour. Each dimension maps to a specific instance size and hardware family. Running two instances of the same type bills two instance-hours for that hour.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when an instance is stopped?
The software charge meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software fee. You may still pay AWS for attached storage while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
How do I move to a different instance type, and does the rate change?
You choose one instance dimension when you launch. To change size, you stop the instance and relaunch on a different type. The hourly software rate then reflects the new instance you selected. The image and its included tools stay the same across all instance types.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Usage Instructions:
Allow inbound SSH access in your security group (TCP port 22)
To connect to your instance using the Amazon EC2 console:
Open the Amazon EC2 console at https://console.aws.amazon.com/ec2/.
In the navigation pane, choose Instances.
Select the instance and choose Connect.
Choose the EC2 Instance Connect tab.
For Connection type, choose Connect using EC2 Instance Connect.
Access the ec2 with the default username: "ubuntu"
For GUI|RDP Access:
Allow inbound TCP port 3389 (RDP)
Create a password for ubuntu user for RDP login using the CLI command: "sudo passwd ubuntu"
Launch RDP program and enter the ubuntu credentials
Access Podman via Cockpit GUI:
Additionally, subscribers can manage Podman containers through the Cockpit web interface by opening TCP port 9090 in their security group.
Access Cockpit at https://<Your-Server-IP>:9090 for an intuitive container management experience.
