Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay by the hour for a hardened, HIPAA-compliant Oracle Linux 8 image running on ARM-based EC2 instances. Pricing is not tiered. Instead, you pick the EC2 instance type that fits your workload, and the hourly software rate scales with the size and family you select. General-purpose (m-family), compute-optimized (c-family), memory-optimized (r- and x-families), and storage- or I/O-focused (i-family) options are available. Larger instance sizes and bare-metal variants carry higher hourly rates. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs, with no upfront commitment.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What am I actually paying for with the hourly software rate on each instance type?
You pay for the hardened, HIPAA-compliant Oracle Linux 8 ARM image itself, billed per instance-hour. The rate is the software licence layered on top of your chosen EC2 instance. The underlying AWS compute charge is separate. Each running instance meters its own hours independently.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when an instance is stopped or paused?
The software rate meters running time only. Fully stopped instances do not accrue software charges. Stopped instances may still incur AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but those are separate from the hourly software licence you see here.
If I run several instances of different sizes, how does my total software bill add up?
Each instance bills independently at the hourly rate for its own type and size. Your total is the sum across all running instances. Larger sizes and bare-metal variants carry higher hourly rates, so instance size and count together drive your bill.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
