Overview
This product has charges associated with it for CIS Level 1 hardening, pre-configured compliance (PCI DSS, NIST), firewall policies, CLAMAV, Audit, Wazuh SIEM agent.
AlmaLinux 9 Hardened is a pre hardened, production ready image built for organizations that need to deploy mission critical workloads with the highest security standards from first boot. Based on AlmaLinux 9, binary compatible with RHEL 9, this image ships with hardening controls aligned to CIS (Center for Internet Security) benchmarks, NIST guidelines and US Government STIG profiles, eliminating the need to manually configure each instance and dramatically reducing time to production. It includes SELinux in enforcing mode, Auditd with preconfigured rules for identity and sudoers monitoring, OpenSCAP with the SCAP Security Guide content, AIDE for file integrity monitoring, Fail2ban with SSH jail integrated with firewalld, ClamAV with up to date signatures and scheduled daily scans, Lynis for continuous auditing, firewalld configured in minimalist mode, and hardened kernel parameters via sysctl. Everything is packaged into an image optimized for virtualized and cloud environments, with full support for EBS disks, NVMe and modern virtualization systems.
Key benefits include reduced compliance risk by starting from a baseline already aligned with CIS Level 1 and Level 2, time and operational cost savings by avoiding weeks of manual configuration and repetitive audits, and continuous visibility thanks to reports generated by Lynis, OpenSCAP and Auditd, which streamline PCI DSS, HIPAA, SOC 2 and FedRAMP audits. The image is ideal for bastion hosts, hardened web servers, Kubernetes nodes, banking, healthcare and public sector environments, and integrates seamlessly with centralized management, security monitoring and auditing tools. Additionally, as an immutable, versioned image, it supports Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices with Terraform, CloudFormation and CDK, as well as golden image strategies and secure auto scaling.
Highlights
- Production ready hardening with CIS, NIST and STIG: preconfigured image with SELinux in enforcing mode, Auditd, OpenSCAP, AIDE, Fail2ban, ClamAV and Lynis, eliminating weeks of manual configuration.
- Simplified regulatory compliance: baseline aligned with CIS Level 1 and Level 2 that streamlines PCI DSS, HIPAA, SOC 2 and FedRAMP audits, with continuous security reports generated automatically.

64-bit (x86) Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

Usage instructions
Thank you for purchasing the AlmaLinux 9 Hardened. This section explains how to launch, access, and verify your hardened instance.
Step 1. Launch the instance
Deploy this AMI from the AWS Marketplace console using your preferred instance type. During launch, select an existing SSH key pair or create a new one. This key is required to access the instance, as password authentication is disabled for security.
Step 2. Configure the security group
In the security group settings, allow inbound SSH traffic on port 22 only from your trusted IP address. Do not open other ports unless required by your workload. The UFW firewall inside the instance is already configured to deny all incoming traffic except SSH port 22.
Step 3. Connect to the instance
After the instance is running, connect using SSH with the default user ec2-user and your private key:
ssh -i /path/to/your-key.pem ec2-user@your-instance-public-ip
