You pay based on your API request rate, billed per request. The four tiers—Serverless, Startup, Growing, and Enterprise—match your expected usage volume rather than storage. Each request represents an API operation, such as storing, decrypting, or proxying card data. Storing a card typically takes two to three operations the first time, then one afterward. Higher tiers suit higher request volumes. You select the tier that fits your operation count and pay for the requests you make. This lets pricing scale as your transaction activity grows.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What exactly counts as one billable API request or operation?
One request is a single API operation, such as creating a key, storing card data, decrypting data, or a BIN lookup. Storing and processing a card the first time normally takes two to three operations. After that, decrypting to process usually needs one. Using the proxy to a payment provider can take three to five.
Do I get charged when my vault sits idle and no requests are sent?
Charges accrue per request, so idle time with no API calls adds no request charges. The service is serverless and scales to your activity without rate limits. Sending no operations means no request-rate charges are metered for that period. Only the calls you actually make count toward your bill.
Does using the payment proxy change how many requests I am billed for?
Yes. A standard store-and-process cycle uses two to three operations initially, then one for later decryption. If you route data through the proxy to a payment provider, expect three to five operations per transaction, since the request is passed on and the response returned to you. More proxy use means more billed requests.

What do you like best about the product?
The ease of implementation really impressed me. Our organisation was able to integrate PCI Vault and start using it within just a few hours of signing up. Support was excellent, and our questions about PCI compliance and data imports were answered right away.
PCI Vault is priced competitively when compared to other providers in the space, but their zero-knowledge environment and scalability truly stood out to us as we had to deal with processing thousands of requests per second.
The PCI Vault environment and API is well designed and was the only suitable solution for our usability and accessibility needs. The PCI proxy also allowed for the intelligent routing of requests without having to do any heavy lifting from our end.
As a technical solutions providers I would highly recommend PCI Vault in reducing PCI compliance burden and liability through their zero-knowledge architecture.
What do you dislike about the product?
The solution is quite technical so we needed to rely on our developers to ensure implementation is achieved correctly and in a compliant manner. PCI Vault does not consult customers on PCI compliance and you will need to discuss this with a partner of theirs should you need advice.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
PCI Vault assisted us in becoming PCI compliant and maintaining compliance while processing via multiple payment providers and storing payment card data ourselves within their PCI DSS level 1 compliant environment.
