SLES for SAP Applications 15 introduced the following new features:
-Improved high availability capabilities including early recognition of primary system failures
-Pre/post-script commands to adapt SAP HANA failover/recovery to user-defined scenarios and internal tools
-Workload Memory Protection replaces Page Cache Management to prioritize performance of SAP applications. You pay by the hour for each running instance, with no upfront commitment. Pricing is organized by EC2 instance type, so your rate depends on which instance size you choose. Options range from small general-purpose instances to large memory-optimized and bare-metal machines built for SAP workloads. Larger instances with more CPU and memory carry higher hourly rates. You select the instance that fits your SAP application's compute and memory needs, and billing scales with the number of hours each instance runs. Memory-heavy instance families support the high-memory demands common to SAP HANA deployments.

What does one hourly unit cover on each of these instance types?
One unit is one running EC2 instance of that type, billed per hour. The rate bundles the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications software license with the instance. You are billed for each hour that instance runs, based on its CPU and memory size.
Am I charged the software fee when an instance is stopped or paused?
The hourly software charge meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the SUSE software fee. Underlying AWS storage or other resource fees may still apply while the instance is stopped, but the license itself bills only while the instance runs.
Which instance families suit SAP HANA's high-memory needs?
Memory-optimized families such as r-series, x-series, and high-memory u-series instances carry more RAM per instance, matching HANA's in-memory database demands. The platform is validated by SAP for mission-critical SAP workloads. You pick the instance whose memory and compute fit your workload; the hourly rate scales with that size.
