You pay by the hour for a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 machine image, with vendor support from Gigabits included. Pricing is not tiered by plan. Instead, each dimension maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type, and you pay the hourly rate tied to the size you launch. Rates scale with instance capacity, so smaller general-purpose instances cost less per hour than larger compute, memory, storage, or accelerated types. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs. Choose the instance type that fits your workload, and the matching hourly software rate applies.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually get for the hourly software rate on each instance type?
You get a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 machine image, tuned for a minimal install, plus vendor support from Gigabits. The hourly rate applies to whichever EC2 instance size you launch. It covers the software layer running on top of your chosen instance capacity.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when my instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running hours only. A stopped or paused instance does not accrue software charges. You may still see underlying AWS fees for attached storage while the instance is off, but the RHEL 9 software charge applies solely to time the instance is running.
How does the software cost change if I switch to a larger instance type?
Each instance type maps to its own hourly software rate. Rates scale with instance capacity, so moving from a general-purpose size to a larger compute, memory, storage, or accelerated type changes the hourly charge. You are billed at the rate tied to whichever size is running.
