This product has charges associated with it for CIS Level 1 hardening, maintenance and support of Amazon Linux 2023.

    Overview

Amazon Linux 2023 hardened to the CIS Benchmark Level 1 with a documented exceptions list, for x86_64 instances. A Graviton (arm64) edition is listed separately. SELinux stays enforcing. Each instance gets its own SSH host keys and machine identity on first boot, and builds its own file-integrity (AIDE) baseline a few minutes later. Security updates install automatically. Every release ships with its CIS audit results. Charges cover hardening, maintenance and support by IOanyT Innovations.

    Highlights

    • CIS Level 1 hardened Amazon Linux 2023 with documented exceptions and audit evidence

    Dimensions summary

You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance type you run, so pricing scales with the compute size you choose. The 16 options fall into four instance families: t3 for general burstable workloads, m7i for balanced compute, c7i for compute-focused needs, and r7i for memory-focused needs. Within each family, sizes range from large (or medium for t3) up to 4xlarge. Larger sizes carry more CPU and memory, so the hourly rate rises as you move up within a family. All options deliver the same hardened Amazon Linux 2023 image.

    Top-of-mind questions for buyers

You get the hardened Amazon Linux 2023 image running on that EC2 instance size. The hourly software charge covers the pre-configured, CIS Level 1 image. It applies per running instance-hour. Larger sizes carry more CPU and memory, so their hourly rate rises accordingly.
The hourly software charge meters running time only. A stopped instance does not accrue software charges. You may still pay underlying AWS fees, such as storage for the volume, while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
You choose the instance type at launch, and the rate matches that choice. To get more CPU or memory, you launch a size up within a family, such as moving from large to xlarge. The change is manual. Your hourly rate then reflects the new size.

64-bit (x86) Amazon Machine Image (AMI)

    Amazon Machine Image (AMI)

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

    Additional details

    Usage instructions

    1. Launch the instance. Allow TCP 22 from your own network only (never 0.0.0.0/0).
    2. Connect: ssh -i your-key.pem ec2-user@<instance-ip>
    3. Use sudo for administration; the root account is locked.
    4. Security updates install automatically. Run sudo dnf upgrade for everything else.
    5. Some unused filesystem modules (NFS/EFS, FUSE, overlay) are disabled by CIS hardening. To re-enable them, delete /etc/modprobe.d/ioanyt-cis-unused-fs.conf and reboot. Guide: https://ioanyt.com/aws-marketplace/hardened-amazon-linux/deploy
