You pay per hour for the FortiManager-VM instance you run on EC2. Charges accrue only while the instance runs. A stopped instance stops software hourly charges, but EC2 storage you provisioned separately may still incur AWS fees. The required 500GB minimum disk is billed as EC2 storage.
What counts toward the 100-device management limit?
The limit covers Fortinet devices this instance manages, such as FortiGate firewalls, FortiSwitch, and FortiAP units. Each managed device counts toward the cap of 100. This limit applies across all seven instance sizes; the size you pick affects performance and resources, not the device count.
How do I move to a larger instance if my performance needs grow?
You choose one of the seven instance sizes at launch. To use a different size, you deploy on that instance type through EC2. Hourly charges then reflect the compute capacity of the size you run. There is no upfront commitment, so switching does not lock you into a term.

What is our primary use case?
My main use case for Fortinet FortiManager is to manage multiple FortiGate devices. I can confirm that I use Fortinet FortiManager perfectly in my main use case.
What is most valuable?
Fortinet FortiManager's best features allow me to operate multiple devices in one template. Using one template to operate multiple devices helps me in my daily work as it reduces time. Fortinet FortiManager has positively impacted my organization because it is very helpful. There are around 15 FortiGate devices, so it would be very challenging to access every device standalone. I centrally log in to one portal, which is Fortinet FortiManager, and after that, I can access any FortiGate devices and manage them.
What needs improvement?
I think Fortinet FortiManager can be improved as the web page loading is slightly slow.

I have been using Fortinet FortiManager for the last 10 years.

My advice to others looking into using Fortinet FortiManager is that I will recommend it. I am also recommending it to my friends and colleagues to use Fortinet FortiManager in their own organization.

What is our primary use case?
I am using FortiGate 200E. I am mostly working with Fortinet FortiManager. Overall, I am using Fortinet FortiManager for everything. The dashboard is used frequently. I use Fortinet FortiManager mostly to manage my firewalls. The simplicity of Fortinet FortiManager is a feature I find most useful.
What is most valuable?
Simplicity and user-friendliness are key aspects I appreciate about Fortinet FortiManager. Centralized policy management is useful. It is good for role-based administration functions. I find role-based administration useful. The main benefit I receive from Fortinet FortiManager is that it streamlines every device.
What needs improvement?
I would like to see functionality that simplifies my life. I understand that adding new devices should be simplified.

I have been working with Fortinet FortiManager for the last two to three years.

I purchased the license for Fortinet FortiManager through the partner. I gave this review a rating of eight.

What is our primary use case?
My experience with Fortinet products is primarily with Fortinet FortiManager. I have attended training on FortiSandbox and FortiWeb as well.
Fortinet solutions are used by my clients across every sector.
They are also used in the healthcare sector for financial purposes.
What is most valuable?
Fortinet FortiManager can centrally manage all FortiGates and is effective for the deployment of updates and patches.
We use centralized policy management for policy management.
It helps streamline policy creation and policy enforcement. However, I would prefer to have an online meeting so I can see who I am talking to, as you are obtaining information about my security. I am aware that there are currently many spam and social engineering attacks occurring.
What needs improvement?
I do not use Fortinet FortiManager daily, but I can speak with my security team and ask them what areas need future improvement for Fortinet FortiManager.
When I installed it, I found it somewhat difficult to set up.
How are customer service and support?
I would rate their support at between eight and nine, which I consider great support.
What other advice do I have?
I still have experience with ESET and Fortinet products. My other colleague has more in-depth experience with Fortinet FortiManager and uses it more daily in that particular area, as I do not use it as regularly and my other colleagues are more involved in that area.

What is our primary use case?
Using Fortinet FortiManager in AWS is different than working on the Google Cloud platform. In previous roles, it was primarily hosted in environments as well as on-prem. Fortinet FortiManager is for centralized management for multiple FortiGate firewalls across various sites. I use it to push consistent security policies and firewall rules across distributed networks efficiently. I also monitor device health and configuration centrally to quickly identify and troubleshoot issues. I have supported network automation by using scripts and policy packages to streamline repetitive tasks. In AWS, Fortinet FortiManager helps ensure our cloud deployed FortiGates stay in sync with our security posture and compliance needs, especially when scaling across multiple VPCs or accounts.
What is most valuable?
One of my favorite features in Fortinet FortiManager is the centralized policy and device management. Being able to push consistent firewall rules and configuration changes across multiple FortiGates saves a ton of time and reduces errors compared to managing each device individually. I also appreciate the automation capabilities, such as the ability to schedule firmware upgrades or run scripts across devices, which helps with the maintenance windows and reduces manual work.
Another aspect that stands out is the visibility and compliance reporting. With Fortinet FortiManager's dashboards and logs, it made it easier to track configuration drift and audit changes, which is critical in regulated environments. The combination of automation and scalability makes Fortinet FortiManager really effective for our work.

It is generally easier to deploy and manage in smaller to mid-sized environments. Cisco Firepower offers more visibility and advanced analytics features, providing deep integration for network traffic analysis. Each has its own strengths, depending on the environment scale. Fortinet FortiManager hits a good balance between usability and centralized control, especially in Fortinet-heavy networks.
How was the initial setup?
The initial install for Fortinet FortiManager is straightforward, especially if you are familiar with Fortinet devices and architectures. The setup process involves deploying the Fortinet FortiManager appliance, either virtual or physical, as well as configuring the network settings and connecting it to your FortiGate devices. It becomes more challenging during the initial policy import and device discovery, especially in larger, complex environments with numerous firewalls and different configurations. Planning device groups and admin roles ahead of time makes a significant difference in smoothing out that phase. Once the baseline is configured, ongoing management becomes much easier, thanks to the centralized controls. It is a manageable process that benefits from good documentation, so with the right strategy, implementation should be successful.
What about the implementation team?
Fortinet FortiManager requires applying regular firmware and software updates to ensure you have the latest security patches and feature improvements.
