You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance type that runs Snipe-IT. Pricing is not tiered by features; every instance runs the same software on Ubuntu 22.04. Instead, each dimension maps to one AWS instance size. The hourly rate scales with the compute, memory, and storage capacity of the instance you choose. General-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, GPU, and high-performance families are all available. Smaller instances suit light asset tracking; larger ones handle heavier loads. You control cost by matching the instance size to your workload and only run what you need.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one billing unit cover for this hourly pricing?
One unit is one running EC2 instance of the size you pick, billed per hour. It runs Snipe-IT on Ubuntu 22.04. The hourly rate covers the software licence for that single instance. Running two instances doubles the charge. Each instance is metered independently by the hour.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when the instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. You may still pay underlying AWS fees for attached storage while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
Can I move to a bigger instance later, and how does that change my bill?
Yes. Each dimension maps to one instance size, so switching sizes changes which hourly rate applies. Stop the current instance and launch the size you need. You then pay the new hourly rate for the hours that instance runs. No feature set changes with size.
