Overview
Bacalhau by Expanso is now part of Expanso Edge. This AMI runs a Bacalhau compute node for teams that already operate a Bacalhau orchestrator. What the image does
- Installs a pinned Bacalhau release, verified against Bacalhau's release signing key at build time
- Runs Bacalhau as a systemd service under a dedicated system user
- Reads its orchestrator URL and token from EC2 user-data on first boot; no credentials are baked into the image
- Hardened Ubuntu 22.04 LTS base: no password or root SSH login, unattended security upgrades, IMDSv2 required
Quick start
Launch the instance with user-data written as key=value lines:
orchestrator-url=nats://ORCHESTRATOR_HOST:4222 node-token=YOUR_NODE_TOKEN
Optional keys: node-name (defaults to the instance ID) and node-labels (comma-separated key=value pairs). The node registers with your orchestrator when it boots.
Networking
The node only makes outbound connections to your orchestrator and needs no inbound ports. The suggested security group allows SSH (port 22) for administration; restrict its source to your own IP range at launch, or remove it and use AWS Systems Manager Session Manager.
