Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for each EC2 instance type you run Bacalhau on. Every dimension maps to a specific AWS instance size, so pricing scales with the compute you choose. Larger instances with more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware bill at higher hourly rates than smaller ones. There are no tiers or upfront commitments here. You select instances that fit your workload, and charges accrue only while each instance runs. Bacalhau runs agents on these nodes to filter, transform, and route data at the source before it reaches downstream destinations.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
A node is any device running the Bacalhau agent, including cloud instances, on-prem servers, or edge devices. On AWS Marketplace, each running EC2 instance acts as one node. You are billed per hour for each instance type you launch, based on its size.
Hourly software charges accrue only while an instance runs. A stopped or powered-off instance does not generate software charges. Underlying AWS storage or other resource fees may still apply while an instance is stopped, but the Bacalhau hourly meter counts running time only.
Each running instance bills independently at its own hourly rate. Your total is the sum of all active instances for the hours they run. Larger instances with more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware raise the total faster. Running many nodes at once increases cost proportionally.

Deploy a fully automated Bacalhau network infrastructure on AWS, consisting of:
Core Infrastructure
- VPC with public subnets for network isolation
- Orchestrator node (EC2):
- Persistent EBS volume for state management
- Elastic IP for stable connectivity
- Secured ports (4222 NATS, 8438 WebUI, 1234 API)
- Auto-scaling compute node cluster:
- Configurable instance types and capacity
- Automated scaling based on demand
- API endpoint on port 1234
Supporting Services
- S3 bucket for secure job results storage
- AWS AppConfig for dynamic configuration management
- AWS Secrets Manager for cluster authentication
- IAM roles with least-privilege access:
- Orchestrator: AppConfig, volume, S3 read, secrets access
- Compute nodes: AppConfig, S3 write, secrets access
All components are deployed with security best practices and can be customized through CloudFormation parameters.
CloudFormation Template (CFT)
AWS CloudFormation templates are JSON or YAML-formatted text files that simplify provisioning and management on AWS. The templates describe the service or application architecture you want to deploy, and AWS CloudFormation uses those templates to provision and configure the required services (such as Amazon EC2 instances or Amazon RDS DB instances). The deployed application and associated resources are called a "stack."

Usage instructions
There are two ways to access your Bacalhau deployment:

CLI Access:
- Get the public IP address of your orchestrator node
- Use the CLI with --api-host flag: bacalhau [command] --api-host <orchestrator_ip>
- Or set environment variable: export BACALHAU_API_HOST=<orchestrator_ip>

Web UI Access:
- Access the web interface at: http://<orchestrator_ip>:8438
- Replace <orchestrator_ip> with your orchestrator node's public IP address
