AI-driven protection has reduced security incidents and manages complex multi-site environments
What is our primary use case?
As an IT system administrator, I manage security systems for five companies and five factories using Bitdefender Security for AWS , and I utilize their management panel to oversee their security systems.
My main use case for Bitdefender Security for AWS is that I sometimes create new rules for internet problems and in situations where companies are detecting a virus, which sometimes appears to be a virus but is not, so I need to allow some rules to resolve those problems.
I often have to create or adjust rules due to access problems where access to some websites is blocked.
As part of my daily tasks with Bitdefender Security for AWS, I encounter situations where certain programs or setups are flagged as viruses, and when I run some programs, they are detected as a virus when they are not, so I need to create new rules to prevent them from being blocked.
What is most valuable?
The best features Bitdefender Security for AWS offers are its AI features, which I find valuable because they teach how to protect network systems against viruses and many attacks.
The AI features help me in my daily work because we often cannot identify the type of virus or phishing attacks coming from websites, and sometimes when we download strange exe files, they can install viruses on our computers. Different viruses can lock all files, and hackers may demand money to unlock them, which we definitely do not want to pay, and Bitdefender Security for AWS stops these viruses efficiently.
Bitdefender Security for AWS has positively impacted my organization because, while it does not completely protect against all virus programs, it addresses many issues as hackers continually create new viruses that we may not be aware of.
What needs improvement?
I cannot provide any suggestions for improvement regarding Bitdefender Security for AWS because I do not have any ideas; I am just a user managing the administrator panel, and generally, Bitdefender Security for AWS does its job successfully. When a problem occurs, I recognize this as a blocking or access issue, and we try to solve this problem by creating new rules.
Our clients consistently tell me that Bitdefender Security for AWS slows down their computers and internet speed significantly, so they suggest that this issue should be addressed since many clients complain about their computers running very slowly after installing Bitdefender Security for AWS.
While we do not outright discourage using Bitdefender Security for AWS due to its effects on computer speed, I note that after installing it, we sometimes argue with customers about their computers becoming slower, which is not ideal. Bitdefender Security for AWS appears to perform better on stronger computers, for instance, E5 or E7 processors with sixteen gigabytes of RAM, but older computers tend to slow down significantly when Bitdefender Security for AWS is installed, so I think they should address this issue.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working in my current field for seventeen years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I believe that Bitdefender Security for AWS can handle growth with more users and devices easily.
How are customer service and support?

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
Centralized protection has reduced cloud costs and keeps critical workloads continuously secure
What is our primary use case?
My main use case for Bitdefender Security for AWS is to provide centralized, lightweight endpoint protection, such as EDR or EPP, for AWS EC2 instances against malware, ransomware, and vulnerabilities without slowing down cloud server performance.
A specific example of how I use Bitdefender Security for AWS in my daily work is that AWS resources cost money. Bitdefender offloads the heavy scanning tasks to a dedicated security server, ensuring that our production EC2 instances maintain high performance and lower CPU usage.
What is most valuable?
The best features Bitdefender Security for AWS offers include scan offloading and resource optimization that offloads heavy anti-malware scanning from the EC2 instance to a Bitdefender-hosted security virtual appliance. Deep AWS integration and EC2 inventory syncs allow GravityZone to automatically synchronize with the Amazon EC2 inventory, enabling automated deployment across Amazon Machine Image or AMI. Another feature is automatic remediation and system recovery rollback, which enables Bitdefender to automatically reverse malicious activity and roll back the affected system to a safe state. Lastly, vulnerability smart shielding and patch management provide exploit prevention that shields unpatched AWS workloads without requiring immediate live system reboots.
Out of the features I mentioned, I find scan offloading the most valuable in my day-to-day operations as a system administrator because keeping CPU usage low is absolutely crucial for optimizing the company infrastructure cost.
I also appreciate the AWS EC2 inventory sync feature. It automatically synchronizes the Bitdefender console with our AWS infrastructure, meaning that whenever a new server is deployed, it is instantly visible and protected without any manual setup, saving a lot of time for administration.
From an organizational perspective, Bitdefender Security for AWS has positively impacted us in three key areas: cost efficiency, business continuity, and operational agility. First, features like scan offloading directly optimize our AWS infrastructure costs by keeping CPU utilization low. Second, with advanced anti-ransomware and automatic rollback features, we significantly reduce the risk of downtime, ensuring our business service remains continuous and secure. Finally, the automated inventory sync allows our IT team to manage security seamlessly as the business scales without adding operational overhead.
What needs improvement?
Bitdefender Security for AWS can be improved in a few ways. I feel the initial setup and policy configuration in the GravityZone console can have a steep learning curve for new users. While the EC2 inventory sync is great, the integration with AWS's native security tools such as AWS Security Hub or GuardDuty could be more seamless out-of-the-box. Even though scan offloading is lightweight, the initial deployment and full system scan can sometimes cause a temporary CPU spike on a smaller EC2 instance. Lastly, the default alerting system can sometimes be too noisy, requiring significant fine-tuning to filter out false positives.
If I have to look for an improvement, I would say the initial learning curve is a factor. The GravityZone console is incredibly powerful, but the layout and policy tuning can be a bit overwhelming for beginners. I also believe the out-of-the-box integration with AWS-native security tools such as Security Hub could be made more seamless to reduce manual configuration.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Bitdefender Security for AWS for about two months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Bitdefender Security for AWS is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability of Bitdefender Security for AWS is easy for setup and automatically expands itself.
How are customer service and support?
The customer support is great, and I don't have any problems.
How was the initial setup?
Regarding Bitdefender Security for AWS's AI capabilities, I think it provides excellent security insights, but its built-in compliance reporting could be improved to automatically map directly against cloud-specific governance frameworks such as the AWS Well-Architected Framework or CIS Benchmarks. The granular role-based access control alignment is functional but could be more deeply integrated with AWS IAM roles for seamless governance across hybrid teams. Finally, the automatic security policy drift detection could benefit from tighter integration with AWS's automated response playbooks when an EC2 instance security profile changes unexpectedly.
What was our ROI?
I have seen a return on investment, and the investment has definitely paid off. In cybersecurity, I measure ROI through ROSI, Return on Security Investment, focusing on cost avoidance and operational efficiency. By looking at our deployment metrics, the investment returned itself in three major ways. First, our AWS compute costs dropped by around fifteen to twenty percent on protected instances after switching from a traditional heavy antivirus to Bitdefender's scan offloading because CPU utilization remained low. Second, our MTTR to vulnerabilities went down from days to just a few hours due to automated EC2 inventory sync and centralized dashboard. Finally, by preventing even a single major ransomware or downtime event on our academic and journal server, we avoided potential recovery costs that could easily double our annual security budget.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing involved transitioning from traditional annual node-based licenses to utility-based, pay-as-you-go licensing with the AWS Marketplace . This allows us to scale our security costs dynamically based on the exact number of active EC2 instances.
What other advice do I have?
Bitdefender Security for AWS's AI capabilities exhibit high detection accuracy. The AI provides a very high detection rate for zero-day attacks and fileless malware by analyzing behavioral patterns rather than just relying on traditional signatures. The low false positive rates ensure that in a production cloud environment, accuracy is not just about catching threats but also about avoiding false alarms, allowing Bitdefender's machine learning models to maintain low rates to prevent accidental blocking of legitimate application traffic on AWS. The tunable AI feature makes its accuracy effective for sysadmins, as it can adjust the aggressiveness of the AI detection based on the specific server workload in AWS.
In my organization, Bitdefender Security for AWS is deployed in a hybrid model. This allows us to leverage the GravityZone cloud console to easily manage and secure our public workloads on AWS while deploying a local security relay for internal or on-premise servers to optimize bandwidth and maintain strict data governance within our local network.
For our public cloud deployment, our primary provider is Hostinger , and the second one is AWS. We host our core public-facing workloads, such as an academic web server and journal system, on Amazon EC2 instances. What I appreciate about Bitdefender GravityZone is its platform-agnostic design, allowing us to seamlessly extend the same level of security and centralized management to other public clouds such as Google Cloud as we decide to expand our multi-cloud strategy in the future.
I purchased Bitdefender Security for AWS through the AWS Marketplace , which simplifies procurement because the Bitdefender license cost is bundled directly into my monthly AWS invoice, and I only pay for protected instances while they are running based on the hourly rate.
Bitdefender Security for AWS is stable, and the scalability is easy for setup and automatically expands itself. The customer support is great, and I don't have any problems, which is why I would rate the customer support a ten on a scale of one to ten.
My advice to others looking into using Bitdefender Security for AWS is that every tool has room for improvement, and I think simplifying the initial setup and reducing alert noise out of the box would make it even better for fast-growing cloud environments. I would rate Bitdefender Security for AWS a nine on a scale of one to ten.
