Centralized protection for cloud workloads has simplified monitoring and improved threat response
What is our primary use case?
My main use case was protecting EC2 workloads in a test AWS environment. I deployed the Bitdefender Security for AWS agent on a couple of EC2 instances and then reviewed the security dashboard to verify that malware protection and security monitoring were working correctly. I also tested using harmless test files, such as EICAR antivirus test files, to confirm that alerts were generated and could be viewed in the consoles.
In addition to the basic deployment, I spent time exploring policy configurations and monitoring. I looked at how alerts were prioritized, reviewed the event logs, and practiced responding to the detections. I also tested scheduled scans, on-demand scans, and verified that EICAR test files were detected while observing how the consoles reported security events. The main objective was to become familiar with the platform and understand how it protects AWS workloads.
What is most valuable?
Bitdefender Security for AWS provides several features that I found valuable. Real-time malware protection for the EC2 instances, centralized management allowing me to manage all the consoles through a single console, and automatic security updates with detailed alerts and reporting for security events are common features that stood out.
The management experience was straightforward, as it was easy to see security status and workloads from a single dashboard instead of checking each instance individually. Policies could be applied consistently across multiple instances, which would help simplify administration as an environment grows.
In the lab environment, Bitdefender Security for AWS improved visibility into the security status of the EC2 instances by providing a centralized dashboard for alerts and events. Instead of checking each system individually, I could review detection and security events from one place, which made monitoring more efficient. It also reduced manual effort because security policies could be applied consistently across workloads, and alerts were generated automatically when suspicious activity was detected.
The AI capabilities appear to be focused on improving threat detection and helping prioritize security events rather than replacing human decision-making. It is important that AI recommendations remain transparent and that administrators maintain control over security policies and response actions. Strong governance, audit logs, and role-based access controls are key to ensure AI is used securely and responsibly.
The alerts and recommendations appeared accurate and relevant. I did not notice a significant number of false positives, and detections were consistent with activities when I was testing. AI-generated recommendations should always be reviewed by a security administrator before taking action.
What needs improvement?
I found the platform easy to use, but there are always areas to improve. One thing I would like to see is even more customizable dashboards and reporting, so different teams can quickly focus on the information most relevant to them. It would also be helpful to have more guided recommendations for resolving alerts, especially for new users.
Another improvement I suggest is making onboarding even easier for new users. It should have more built-in tutorials, guided setup wizards, and contextual help with the console, which could help teams get up and running faster. It would be more useful to have more customizable notifications and reporting, so different teams, such as security operations and system administration, can tailor the information they receive.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used Bitdefender Security for AWS in a lab environment for a few months to familiarize myself with the platform.

I did not need to contact Bitdefender support during the evaluation because deployment and testing went smoothly. I did use the documentation and knowledge base, which I found helpful and well-organized.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Bitdefender Security for AWS was the first solution that I used. My focus was on deployment and monitoring and policy management capabilities. This is our organization's first time using a cloud security solution.
How was the initial setup?
The setup process was straightforward, and licensing and deployment did not create any issues during the evaluation. I created a purchase order, it was approved, and it felt like a plug-and-play solution. It seemed reasonable for an enterprise-grade cloud security solution.
What was our ROI?
Since my experience was in the lab and evaluation environment rather than production, I did not formally measure ROI or track metrics like cost savings and staff reduction. However, I see operational benefits. The centralized management and automated alerting reduced the amount of manual monitoring required and made it easier to review security events from a single console. As current users were trained to use Bitdefender Security for AWS, there was no requirement for new employees for that. Money was saved because before, the product that was used had a manual security system, so I had to look around each individual instance for security alerts, which also saved time and money.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I was involved in the evaluation process. I looked at a few cloud security solutions, including Microsoft Defender cloud and CrowdStrike, before deciding to evaluate Bitdefender Security for AWS. As the focus was on working more closely with AWS, the priority was ease of deployment and centralized management. From all of the criteria mentioned, Bitdefender Security for AWS stood out because it provides the features that were needed while offering straightforward management.
What other advice do I have?
I recommend clearly defining security requirements before deployment and taking time to plan policies for AWS integration. Start with a pilot deployment in a test environment. Overall, I had a positive experience with Bitdefender Security for AWS. I found it straightforward to deploy and manage, with good visibility into cloud workloads and useful centralized monitoring. There is always room for improvement in areas like dashboard customization and onboarding. I would rate this solution an 8 out of 10.

Security has increased and visibility into endpoint behavior has improved across our cloud servers
What is our primary use case?
My primary use case for Bitdefender Security for AWS is endpoint protection. I use Bitdefender Security for AWS on servers and also on the company's personal machines, providing phishing protection and open port detection. On a day-to-day basis, I use Bitdefender Security for AWS as a website blocker for some remote endpoints that we have and I also perform incident response.
What is most valuable?
The best features that Bitdefender Security for AWS offers include the visualization part of what the person is being blocked from or banned from at that moment. This visualization feature makes my job easier in the sense that I can see what the person is trying to access improperly.
I also find the licensing part really easy to see on screen with Bitdefender Security for AWS. I can view when my license will expire and see how many licenses I have in an easy and quick way. I can also determine how many machines are protected or which endpoints are currently outdated.
Bitdefender Security for AWS has had a positive impact on my organization by providing more visibility into what people are accessing improperly and more protection for machines with various operating systems, such as Linux and macOS.
What needs improvement?
Bitdefender Security for AWS could be improved in the Threat Explorer part, as it doesn't detect everything. For instance, if the person goes to a hotel or an open network, the antivirus ends up blocking that network but doesn't detect it in Threat Explorer. It doesn't give me visibility into what is being blocked or which Wi-Fi it is blocking. Many times the person needs to restart the machine two or three times for it to then work on the open network they're trying to connect to. It could show up in Threat Explorer so I could allow it directly there in the allowed list.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Bitdefender Security for AWS for three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Bitdefender Security for AWS is very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

How was the initial setup?
My experience with pricing, setup costs, and licensing for Bitdefender Security for AWS is that the prices beat what the market had because before that I used Kaspersky. I presented the costs that we had, and it turned out to be 30 percent cheaper than what we were already using. The integration into our environment and the migration was also very controlled and quick.
What about the implementation team?
I did not purchase Bitdefender Security for AWS through the AWS Marketplace . Instead, it was through a consulting partner at a presentation I went to about the antivirus itself, and they offered us a good proposal which I ended up buying.
What was our ROI?
I have already obtained a return on investment with Bitdefender Security for AWS. There was an apparent cost reduction now at the beginning, and when we renewed its license, there was a cost reduction again along with fewer endpoint cases. As we had been using it for some time, the antivirus started to work better.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I did not evaluate other options before choosing Bitdefender Security for AWS. I discovered it at a presentation by a consultant who invited me to a dinner and presented this solution to me, which I found interesting and adopted it.
What other advice do I have?
My advice for others thinking about using Bitdefender Security for AWS is to assess whether it will be viable for their current environment. I believe so because Bitdefender Security for AWS is compatible with almost any environment.
However, if the person already comes from a solution that meets all their requirements and is at a competitive price, then it depends on what the company is looking for and the financial budget they have to adapt. Migration to Bitdefender Security for AWS would be very welcome. I would rate this review an eight.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
Cloud security has unified protection and simplifies cross-account management
What is our primary use case?
I evaluated and tested Bitdefender Security for AWS specifically for the protection of virtual machines (EC2 instances) deployed on AWS . The main objective was to secure cloud production environments and data synchronization pipelines between remote offices, ensuring robust anti-malware and anti-ransomware protection at the guest OS level without affecting performance, thanks to the scan offloading features.
How has it helped my organization?
It has significantly enhanced our security posture by providing continuous workload protection and reducing administrative overhead. The native integration with the AWS EC2 API enables easy monitoring and faster incident investigation through a single dashboard. Operationally, the scan offloading architecture keeps host CPU and memory utilization remarkably low, which prevents server performance degradation on critical production instances and directly optimizes our AWS compute costs.
What is most valuable?
The best features are the cross-account API integration and the scan offloading architecture via Bitdefender-hosted SVAs. The IAM-based integration syncs automatically with the AWS EC2 inventory, ensuring instant visibility and automated protection for new instances without manual setup. Scan offloading delegates heavy malware scans outside the virtual machines, keeping host CPU usage low and optimizing infrastructure costs without degrading production performance.
What needs improvement?
Bitdefender should focus on native, out-of-the-box integrations with native AWS security services like AWS Security Hub or Amazon GuardDuty to provide a more unified security view. Additionally, expanding its capabilities toward a full CNAPP suite by including Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM) and native, granular protection for containerized or serverless environments (such as Amazon EKS , Fargate, and Lambda) within the standard licensing tier would highly benefit complex cloud-native architectures. Finally, the default alerting mechanism could be optimized to reduce initial alert noise and false positives.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Bitdefender Security for AWS for less than 6 months as part of our technical evaluation, testing phase, and recent deployment trials.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution has proven to be extremely stable and reliable for daily cloud operations. The primary benefit comes from the lightweight BEST agent architecture: by offloading heavy scanning tasks to external security servers (SVA), it eliminates the CPU spikes and disk bottlenecks that typically cause crashes or performance slowdowns on production EC2 instances. Managed centrally via GravityZone, the system applies updates and policies quietly in the background without requiring server reboots.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
How are customer service and support?
The customer service and technical support are solid and highly responsive. The staff is knowledgeable about both AWS-native environments and the GravityZone-based architecture, which makes troubleshooting agent-to-control-center connectivity or IAM permission quirks fast and effective. Additionally, the online documentation and knowledge base are exceptionally detailed, providing clear, practical guidance that allows engineering teams to resolve common policy-tuning issues independently.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Yes, we previously evaluated and used other enterprise solutions like Trend Micro and Sophos. We decided to switch to Bitdefender Security for AWS because it offers a much better balance between robust behavioral threat detection and minimal performance impact on our cloud compute resources. Traditional endpoint security platforms or heavy on-box suites degraded server performance and required a lot of manual oversight, whereas Bitdefender scales automatically with our EC2 footprint and optimizes our infrastructure costs through its scan offloading architecture and flexible pay-as-you-go AWS Marketplace licensing model.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is generally straightforward for those already familiar with cloud tools, requiring minimal deployment effort. Subscribing through the AWS Marketplace allows unified billing and fast procurement. Integrating AWS EC2 via cross-account IAM roles enables automatic inventory discovery without long-term credential risks. However, navigating initial policy configurations and exception tuning in the GravityZone console presents a steep learning curve for beginners.
What about the implementation team?
We deployed the solution directly using our internal cloud engineering team, as the AWS Marketplace integration makes procurement simple. However, during our initial evaluation, we reviewed deployment documentation and technical case studies from Tenesys, a certified Bitdefender partner in Europe known for managing GravityZone implementations. Their architecture blueprints provided valuable guidance for setting up our security policies and optimization workflows.
What was our ROI?
Yes, the solution delivers clear ROI through operational efficiency and resource optimization. The automated inventory sync saves substantial engineering time during deployments, reducing the manual administrative workload. Additionally, the scan offloading architecture lowers AWS compute costs by 15% to 25% on protected instances because CPU utilization remains consistently low, avoiding the need to oversize infrastructure to tolerate heavy security scans.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The procurement is straightforward because it is sold directly as a service through the AWS Marketplace, allowing utility-based, pay-as-you-go licensing billed by the hour for active EC2 instances. This removes the need for large upfront perpetual licenses and aligns security costs with cloud scaling. There is no major initial setup fee, but navigating the initial policy configuration inside the GravityZone console presents a steep learning curve for beginners. Compared to platforms like CrowdStrike or Trend Micro, it offers a superior cost-benefit ratio for pure workload protection.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We evaluated Trend Micro and CrowdStrike Falcon against Bitdefender based on cost and cloud integration. CrowdStrike offers advanced threat hunting but at a more prohibitive price. Trend Micro provides a comprehensive suite but features a more complex interface and less transparent pricing. Bitdefender wins on the cost-benefit ratio due to its simpler GravityZone dashboard and scan offloading, which lowers AWS compute costs, though it lacks full-stack CNAPP capabilities.
What other advice do I have?
My advice is to thoroughly evaluate your cloud security priorities beforehand: if your organization requires low-impact, straightforward anti-malware and workload protection across mixed EC2 instances with utility-based billing, it offers an exceptional cost-benefit ratio. However, take full advantage of the proof-of-concept phase to carefully tune your security policies and alerting mechanisms right from the start, as the initial setup and policy configuration inside the GravityZone console can have a steep learning curve and default alerts can be slightly noisy. I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.
