What do I actually get for the hourly rate on each instance type?
You get Oracle Linux 7 running on the AWS EC2 instance size named by that dimension. The rate covers vendor support for the operating system image. AWS compute, storage, and network charges are billed separately by AWS on top of this software rate.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or paused?
The hourly software charge accrues only while the instance runs. A stopped or paused instance stops accruing this software charge. Underlying AWS storage for the attached volumes may still incur AWS fees, but the software rate meters running hours only.
If I move Oracle Linux 7 to a larger instance, how does my bill change?
Each instance type has its own hourly rate. When you switch to a different size, billing follows the new type's rate for the hours you run it. Larger families such as m5.24xlarge or bare-metal options carry higher hourly rates than smaller ones like t3.micro. The change is not automatic; you select the instance.
