What Is Kubernetes?
Kubernetes (K8s) is an open-source container orchestration platform originally designed
by Google and now maintained by a worldwide community of contributors under the Cloud
Native Computing Foundation. It automates software deployment, scaling, and management
of containerized workloads and services. Kubernetes supports both declarative
configuration and automation, making it a portable and extensible platform for managing

Kubernetes assembles one or more computers - virtual machines or bare metal - into a

The software charge meters running time only. A stopped instance does not accrue software fees. Underlying AWS charges, such as storage for the attached volume, may still apply while the instance is stopped. Software billing resumes when you start the instance again.
How do I change the amount I pay as my Kubernetes workload grows?
Your rate follows the instance type you select. To handle more compute or memory, launch a larger instance family, which carries a different hourly rate. You can also run additional instances, each billed separately per hour. There is no upfront commitment, so you adjust as needs change.
