You pay by the hour for a running server, with the rate set by the EC2 instance type you pick. All 66 dimensions deliver the same MediaWiki appliance; they differ only in the underlying compute. Options span general-purpose (m and t families), compute-optimized (c family), and one memory-optimized size (r7a.medium). Sizes range from nano and micro up to large and xlarge, so hourly cost rises with more CPU and memory. You choose the instance that fits your workload, and billing tracks actual hours used.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
One unit is one running EC2 server instance charged per hour. The rate reflects the CPU and memory of the instance family and size you select. All instances run the same MediaWiki appliance. You pay for each hour the instance runs, regardless of wiki traffic or page count.
The hourly software charge meters running time only, so a fully stopped instance stops accruing software fees. Underlying AWS storage for the volume may still incur separate AWS charges while the instance is stopped. Restarting the instance resumes the hourly software charge.
You change cost by launching a different instance type, not by an automatic tier upgrade. Moving from a micro or small size to a large or xlarge raises the hourly rate for more CPU and memory. You migrate your wiki data to the new instance using the documented backup and restore steps.

Usage instructions
System initialization
After launch, browse to http://<Public_DNS>/ and complete the first-boot configuration, or connect by SSH using the key pair selected at launch.
Operating system access
Connect using SSH as the Linux user admin with the selected EC2 key pair. Run privileged commands with sudo; this provides full OS-level administration.
Application access
Open http://<Public_DNS>/ in a web browser. The application may redirect to HTTPS after configuration.
