AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for Ubuntu Pro, with a separate rate tied to each EC2 instance type you run. The many dimensions map to specific instances across families like compute (c5, c6i, c7i, c8i), memory (r5, r6i, r7i, x2), general purpose (m5, m6i, m7i, t2, t3), storage (d2, d3, i3, i7i), and accelerated (g, p, inf, trn). Pricing scales with instance size, since it reflects the number of vCPUs, and it is metered by the second. Charges appear on your existing AWS invoice, with no upfront commitment.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the hourly rate for each instance type actually reflect?
The rate reflects the number of vCPUs on the chosen EC2 instance. Larger instances have more vCPUs, so their hourly Ubuntu Pro rate is higher. Metering runs by the second, so you pay for the actual time each instance runs. The charge is separate from the underlying EC2 compute cost.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or powered off?
The Ubuntu Pro software charge meters running time, since it is billed by the second. A stopped or powered-off instance does not accrue software charges. Note that underlying AWS storage or other AWS fees may still apply separately while the instance is stopped.
What security and compliance coverage is included across all the instance types?
Every instance type includes the same Ubuntu Pro coverage: security patches for infrastructure and hundreds of open source applications, FIPS 140-3 and Common Criteria EAL2 certified components, optional CIS and DISA STIG hardening, and Kernel Livepatch for updates without reboot. The instance type affects only the hourly rate, not the feature set.
