AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay by the hour for each running instance, with no upfront commitment or long-term contract. Pricing scales with the instance you choose, and Canonical bills it on your existing AWS invoice. Each dimension maps to a specific Arm-based (Graviton) EC2 instance type, from small sizes like t4g.nano up to large ones like x8g.48xlarge and bare-metal options. Larger instances carry more vCPUs, so their hourly rate is higher. You select the instance type that fits your workload and pay only for the hours you run it.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
How is the hourly rate for each instance type determined?
The rate scales with the instance's vCPU count, since Ubuntu Pro pricing is based on vCPUs. Larger Arm-based (Graviton) instances have more vCPUs, so they carry higher hourly rates. Billing is metered by the second, which suits automation and scaling across all deployment sizes.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or paused?
The software charge meters running time. A stopped instance does not run, so the Ubuntu Pro hourly charge does not accrue while it is off. Underlying AWS resources like attached storage may still incur separate AWS fees, but the software licence bills only for the hours the instance runs.
What security and compliance coverage does this Ubuntu Pro image include?
Every instance includes FIPS 140-3 and Common Criteria EAL2 certified components, optional CIS hardening and DISA STIG profiles, and Kernel Livepatch for patching without reboot. It adds security coverage for many open source applications. This coverage runs to 2036 and applies regardless of which instance type you select.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
