Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance size you run. Each dimension maps to one instance type, so pricing scales with the compute, memory, and storage you select. Smaller tiers like t3.micro or c7a.medium fit light workloads. Larger tiers such as x2iedn.metal or r7a.metal-48xl suit demanding databases. The software price is the same product across all tiers; only the hourly rate changes with instance capacity. You add AWS infrastructure charges separately. The database auto-tunes to your chosen instance size, so you match cost to workload by picking the tier you need.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each tier maps to one EC2 instance type running the PostgreSQL 16 database server with the pgAdmin4 web interface. The instance defines your CPU, memory, and storage. Larger tiers give more compute for heavier database loads. The database includes SSL/TLS encryption and 10 extensions across all tiers.
The hourly software charge meters running time only. When you stop the instance, software charges stop accruing. Stopped instances may still incur AWS storage fees for the attached volume, but those are separate AWS infrastructure charges, not the software licence.
You pay two things at once. The hourly software rate for your selected tier appears on your bill. Separately, AWS charges for the underlying EC2 compute, storage, and data transfer. Both accrue by the hour and appear on the same invoice. Picking a larger tier raises both charges.

Usage instructions
- Launch the instance and wait for it to initialize (2-3 minutes).
- SSH into the instance: ssh -i your-key.pem ubuntu@<public-ip>
- View credentials: sudo cat /var/lib/postgresql/credentials.txt
- Access pgAdmin4: http://<public-ip>/pgadmin4
- Connect to PostgreSQL: psql -h localhost -U postgres
