Overview
Fennel is a modern real-time feature engineering platform inspired by the ethos of PyTorch and is architected in the service of the following four design goals:
-Easy to install, learn & use - be approachable to data science / ML teams and to make them fully self-dependent for end-to-end feature engineering workflows.
-Maintain data/feature quality via best practices - production ML systems often get plagued by data/feature quality issues. Prevention & detection of such issues (via best practices & tooling) should be a first-class citizen, not an afterthought.
-Work equally well for batch & real-time - ML is transitioning from being predominantly batch-oriented today to being more real-time. Fennel should support the exact same code working equally well for any combination of batch, streaming, & real-time computation.
-Keep cloud costs low - feature engineering often requires dealing with large volumes of data and gets very costly. For any workload, Fennel aims to be at least as cost-effective as a hand-rolled system while also being more powerful & easier to use.
Highlights
- Makes data science teams self-serve in shipping both batch and realtime features to production.
- No more feature or data bugs.

Customer reviews
Fennel seeds have supported detailed research and global awareness still needs to grow
What is our primary use case?
My main use case for Fennel is for research purposes along with the fact that it is a very interesting and medically beneficial seed, which can help with body temperature regulation and has its own refreshing power, so it also helps with bad mouth odor.
In my research, I take Fennel seeds and then I take their pictures using a digital microscope. I used more than 100 Fennel seeds and took their pictures using a digital microscope to understand their characteristics and their structure so that when the machine learns them, they can learn it more properly, and no data is missed out.
Fennel is one of the seeds that I used in my research because, as I mentioned, it has many medical properties and its own health benefits, so I chose it. I took more than 100 Fennel seeds and took their pictures using a digital microscope so that each of their structures and how they are built can be learned easily using a machine learning model later.
Fennel has positively impacted my research by helping me add variety along with the fact that many people get confused between Fennel, cumin, and caraway. The pictures that I added helped many people get rid of the confusion.
My dataset is going to help people learn how Fennel looks, and what I want to do is help people learn how to see the different spices, train a machine learning model on it, and then it might help with seed identification because it is manually very costly and human inspection can often be wrong and tiring.
What is most valuable?
The best features Fennel offers are that its structure is built very much like cumin, but it has a rounder body with a difference in color, as it is a bit creamish whereas cumin is brown.
Regarding its medical benefits or research usability, Fennel has quite a few medical benefits, along with the fact that it can help you keep your body calm and body temperature low naturally, and it is a very good thing for summers, specifically if you are from a tropical area or a place where the sun is really high or the temperatures are quite high normally. Fennel and Fennel drinks specifically can be a really good thing for you. It also has a very sweet taste, which is refreshing and good for your blood pressure, and along with the fact that it kills or helps to keep your mouth fresh, you get rid of bad breath.
What needs improvement?
Fennel seeds are not really accessible throughout the world. Mainly in Asian countries, Fennel is quite used or more popularly used. Many of them use it in their cooking, while some use it as a drink or just eat it after the meal, but it is not the same case throughout the world. Many countries or places have so many areas where people do not know about Fennel or they do not have access to it. So it is not really an accessible or known spice throughout the world.
Honestly, I do not know how Fennel can be improved, but perhaps a little bit more awareness about its medical properties and accessibility throughout different regions can help people know about it more.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working in my current field for the last two months.
What other advice do I have?
My advice to others looking into using Fennel is to look for whole seeds because Fennel seeds are often broken. I would rate this review a 6 out of 10.
