Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. You pay by the hour for Minimal Ubuntu Pro 22.04 LTS, added on top of your standard EC2 instance cost. Each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type, from small shared instances to large memory, compute, storage, and GPU machines. Pricing scales with instance size, since it reflects the number of vCPUs on each machine. Larger instances carry a higher hourly rate. Metering runs by usage, so you are billed only for the hours instances run. Discounts may apply through AWS Savings Plans. Choose the instance type that fits your workload, and the matching rate applies.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I get for the hourly rate on each instance type dimension?
You get the Minimal Ubuntu Pro 22.04 LTS software subscription running on that EC2 instance type. This adds security patches, kernel Livepatch, and compliance components like FIPS and CIS hardening on top of the operating system. The rate reflects the vCPUs on the machine you choose.
Am I charged for the software when an instance is stopped?
Metering runs by the second while an instance runs, so the software charge stops when the instance is stopped. You pay only for the hours instances are active. Stopped instances may still incur separate AWS storage fees, but the Ubuntu Pro software meters running time only.
What drives the price difference between instance type dimensions?
Pricing is based on the number of vCPUs on each instance. Larger instances have more vCPUs, so they carry a higher hourly software rate. The Ubuntu Pro charge is separate from and added on top of the underlying EC2 compute cost for that instance.
