Overview
Supabase 1-Click Self-Hosted Stack on Ubuntu 24.04
Deploy a fully self-hosted Supabase backend stack on AWS with a single click. This pre-configured Ubuntu 24.04 AMI gives development teams immediate access to the complete Supabase platform - including a PostgreSQL database, authentication, real-time subscriptions, storage, and auto-generated APIs - without the complexity of manual installation and configuration.
Why Self-Host Supabase on AWS?
Self-hosting Supabase on your own AWS infrastructure gives you full control over your data, networking, and security policies. You maintain complete ownership of your database and backend services while benefiting from the open-source Supabase ecosystem and the reliability of AWS compute resources.
- Data sovereignty - Keep all application data within your own AWS account and preferred region
- Full infrastructure control - Configure networking, security groups, and instance sizing to match your requirements
- No vendor lock-in - Built entirely on open-source components you can inspect, modify, and extend
- Simplified deployment - Skip the manual Docker setup and configuration with a ready-to-launch AMI
What Is Included
This AMI delivers the complete Supabase self-hosted stack, pre-installed and configured via Docker on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS:
- PostgreSQL Database - A production-ready relational database at the core of your backend
- Authentication (GoTrue) - User management with support for email, password, OAuth, and third-party providers
- Auto-Generated REST and GraphQL APIs (PostgREST) - Instantly expose your database schema as secure, performant APIs
- Realtime Engine - Push database changes to connected clients over WebSockets in real time
- Storage API - Manage and serve files with fine-grained access control tied to your database policies
- Supabase Studio - A web-based dashboard for managing your database, users, storage, and API settings
- Edge Functions - Run serverless functions close to your users for custom backend logic
Prerequisites
To get started, you should have basic familiarity with:
- Linux system administration
- Git and Docker fundamentals
- Networking basics (ports, DNS, security groups)
Ideal Use Cases
- Startups and SaaS builders who need a full backend stack without managing each component individually
- Development teams looking for a self-hosted alternative to managed backend-as-a-service platforms
- Regulated industries that require data to remain within specific AWS regions or accounts
- Prototyping and MVPs where speed of deployment matters and you want a production-capable foundation from day one
How It Works
- Launch the AMI from AWS Marketplace on your preferred EC2 instance type
- The Supabase stack starts automatically via Docker Compose
- Access Supabase Studio through your browser to begin building
- Connect your frontend or mobile application using the auto-generated API endpoints
Built on Open Source
Supabase was founded in 2020 and provides developer tools including databases, authentication, and APIs. The entire stack is open source, giving you transparency into every component running on your infrastructure. By deploying on AWS, you combine the flexibility of open-source tooling with the scalability and global reach of AWS cloud infrastructure.

Highlights
- One-Click Deployment - Launch a fully configured Supabase stack on Ubuntu 24.04 with a single click. This pre-built AMI eliminates complex manual setup, so you can start building immediately. The stack is deployed using Docker, requiring only basic Linux administration and networking knowledge to get started and manage ongoing operations.
- Complete Developer Toolset - Supabase provides an open-source alternative with integrated databases, APIs, and developer tools designed for building modern applications. Self-hosting gives you full control over your data and infrastructure while leveraging the same powerful platform used by development teams worldwide.
- Self-Hosted on Your AWS Infrastructure - Run Supabase entirely within your own AWS account for maximum data sovereignty and security. Avoid third-party data handling by keeping your databases and application backend on infrastructure you control, with the flexibility to customize configurations to meet your specific requirements.

64-bit (x86) Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
