Your hourly rate reflects that specific instance size.
Am I charged the software rate when my instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running hours only. A stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. Underlying AWS storage fees for the attached volume may still apply while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
Does my hourly cost change automatically if I switch to a larger instance size?
Yes. Each instance size is a separate pricing dimension. When you launch a larger size like 24xlarge or a bare-metal variant, that size's higher hourly rate applies for its running hours. Switching to a smaller size lowers the rate. You control this by choosing which instance you run.
