You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance type you run. Each dimension maps to one instance size, so pricing scales with the compute, memory, storage, or accelerator power you choose. Smaller shared types like t3.nano cost less per hour, while large compute (c-family), memory (r- and x-family), storage (d- and i-family), and GPU or accelerator instances cost more. What do I get for the hourly fee on each instance type?
You get an Amazon Machine Image with IIS 10 on Windows Server 2019, plus the GigaOps Traffic Guard software. The image includes updates, firewalls, and network protocols. The instance type you pick sets the compute, memory, storage, or accelerator capacity behind that software.
Am I charged the software fee when an instance is stopped?
The software fee meters per running hour on the instance type you choose. Stopped instances do not accrue software charges. You may still pay standard AWS charges for attached storage while an instance is stopped, but the software itself bills only active running time.
How do the software charge and the AWS infrastructure charge combine on my bill?
Two charges apply at the same time. The hourly software fee is set by your chosen instance type. Standard AWS infrastructure charges for that instance apply separately. Both meter by the hour and appear on the same invoice. Larger instance types raise both charges.
