Instead, each dimension maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type, so your rate depends on the machine size you choose. Options range from small burstable instances like t3.nano up to large compute, memory, storage, and accelerated instances such as x2iedn.metal and p5.48xlarge. Larger instances with more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware carry higher hourly rates. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs, with no upfront commitment.

What resource does one hourly unit cover, and how is running time counted?
Each hourly unit covers one running EC2 instance of the type you select, such as m5.large or c6i.xlarge. The software meters actual instance-hours. You pay for each hour a chosen instance runs. Larger instance types carry higher hourly rates because they provide more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or paused?
The software charge applies only while an instance runs. Fully stopped instances do not accrue software fees. Stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage charges for attached volumes, but the software licence meters running time only. Charges resume automatically when you restart the instance.
If I switch to a larger instance type, how does my hourly rate change?
Your rate matches whichever instance type is running. Moving from a smaller type like t3.medium to a larger one like m5.4xlarge raises the hourly software charge for the hours the larger instance runs. The change takes effect when you launch the new instance. No commitment locks you into one type.
