Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance type you run. Each dimension maps to one instance size, so pricing scales with the compute, memory, storage, or accelerator power you choose. Smaller shared types like t3.nano cost less per hour, while large compute (c-family), memory (r- and x-family), storage (d- and i-family), and GPU or accelerator instances cost more. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs. The software fee is added on top of standard AWS infrastructure charges. Pick the instance that matches your workload to control cost.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
You get an Amazon Machine Image with IIS 10 on Windows Server 2019, plus the GigaOps Traffic Guard software. The image includes updates, firewalls, and network protocols. The instance type you pick sets the compute, memory, storage, or accelerator capacity behind that software.
The software fee meters per running hour on the instance type you choose. Stopped instances do not accrue software charges. You may still pay standard AWS charges for attached storage while an instance is stopped, but the software itself bills only active running time.
Two charges apply at the same time. The hourly software fee is set by your chosen instance type. Standard AWS infrastructure charges for that instance apply separately. Both meter by the hour and appear on the same invoice. Larger instance types raise both charges.

1. Getting Started with Windows on AWS
You can learn more about Windows usage on AWS through this AWS Windows page . This page contains resources on deploying Windows-based EC2 instances, licensing options, and using Microsoft services on AWS.
2. Logging in as Administrator
To log in to your AWS Windows instance as an Administrator, follow these steps:
- Go to the AWS Support Knowledge Center to retrieve the Administrator password.
- Use the private key (.pem) file you generated when you created your EC2 instance to decrypt the Administrator password.
- After obtaining the password, you can use it to log in to your Windows instance through Remote Desktop (RDP).
3. Launch IIS Server
- To open IIS Server, go to the Start Menu and search for IIS, then select Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. IIS will be launched.
- Start using IIS for your needs.
