You pay by the hour for the running software on a chosen Amazon EC2 instance type. Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance size, so pricing scales with the compute, memory, and storage that instance provides. Options span general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage, GPU, and high-memory families, from small shared instances up to bare-metal and multi-terabyte machines. You are not locked into a tier; you select the instance that fits your workload and switch as needs change. The software runs on Ubuntu Server 22.04, and hourly charges apply only while an instance runs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hour of billing actually cover on my chosen instance?
One hour covers the software license running on one Amazon EC2 instance of the size you select. Each dimension maps to a single instance type. The rate reflects that instance's compute, memory, and storage. You are billed for each hour the instance runs.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or powered off?
Hourly software charges apply only while an instance runs. A stopped or powered-off instance stops accruing software charges. Underlying AWS resources like attached storage may still bill separately through AWS. The software license meters running time only.
Can I switch instance types later if my workload grows?
Yes. You are not locked into one dimension. You can move to a general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage, GPU, high-memory, or bare-metal instance as needs change. Billing then follows the hourly rate for the new instance type you run.
