You pay by the hour for a hardened Ubuntu 24.04 LTS machine image. Pricing is usage-based, with no upfront commitment. Each dimension maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type. The rate you pay depends on the instance you launch. Smaller instances like t2.nano or t3.micro carry lower hourly rates. Larger compute, memory, storage, and accelerated instances such as metal, 32xlarge, and GPU types carry higher rates. This lets you match the instance size to your workload. Your total cost scales with instance choice and hours run.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hour of billing cover for this hardened Ubuntu image?
One hour maps to one running EC2 instance of the type you select, such as t3.medium or m6i.large. You pay the software rate for that instance type per hour it runs. Each running instance meters its own hours. Launch more instances and each accrues charges separately.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when my instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running time only. A stopped instance does not accrue software charges. Underlying AWS storage fees for the attached volumes may still apply while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
Do I commit upfront, or is this pay-as-you-go?
This is usage-based with no upfront commitment. You pay only for the hours each instance runs, at the rate tied to its instance type. Stop paying by stopping or terminating the instance. This suits variable or short-lived workloads without a fixed term.
