MariaDB on Windows - Pre-Configured, Production-Ready Database AMI
Skip hours of manual setup and launch a fully configured MariaDB database on Windows Server. This AMI is built for Windows-shop DBAs, .NET development teams, and mid-market organizations migrating from MySQL who need a reliable, supported database without the overhead of self-installation or the limitations of managed services that do not offer Windows hosting.
Unlike AWS RDS for MariaDB, this AMI runs on Windows Server - enabling Active Directory integration, .NET native connectivity, and Windows administration tools that RDS cannot provide. Unlike free community AMIs, this deployment includes pre-configured AWS integrations and guaranteed 24/7 expert support.
Getting Started in 5 Steps
- Launch the AMI from AWS Marketplace and select your instance type
- Connect via Remote Desktop (port 3389) using your key pair credentials
- Verify the MariaDB Windows service is running (configured for automatic startup)
- Set your database credentials and connect on port 3306
- Begin accepting application connections - database is production-ready
Pre-installed components: MariaDB Server, AWS CLI (for S3 integration), CloudWatch agent (monitoring), SSM agent (secure management), and Windows Firewall configured for ports 3389 and 3306only.
Why This AMI Over Alternatives
- vs. Self-Install: Save configuration time with production defaults, pre-configured AWS integrations, and automatic service startup. Get expert support instead of troubleshooting alone.
- vs. RDS for MariaDB: RDS does not offer Windows Server hosting. If your stack requires Active Directory, .NET Entity Framework, or Windows-native tooling, this AMI is your path.
Real-World Scenario
A mid-size e-commerce company running a .NET application on Windows Server 2022 needs to migrate from MySQL to MariaDB for Galera Cluster high availability across two AWS Availability Zones. They require Active Directory authentication for their DBA team and PCI-compliant encrypted connections. This AMI provides the Windows-native MariaDB deployment with TLS-ready configuration, and cloudimg support assists with Galera Cluster topology setup and MySQL migration validation.
Security and Hardening
- MariaDB configured with role-based access control enabled by default
- Encrypted binary logs for replication security
- TLS support for client-server connections
- Windows Firewall restricts access to ports 3389 (RDP) and 3306 (MariaDB)
- SSM agent enables secure management without opening additional ports
- Windows Server2022 Secured Core capabilities available
- Regular OS security updates provided through support subscription
Key Features
- ACID Compliance ensures data integrity for transactional workloads
- Galera Cluster for synchronous multi-master replication and high availability
- MySQL Drop-In Compatibility - same client protocols, connectors, and tools
- Storage Engines: InnoDB, Aria, MyRocks (write-heavy), ColumnStore (analytics)
- Oracle Compatibility Mode for simplified Oracle-to-MariaDB migration
- Temporal Tables for automatic historical data tracking
- Thread Pool for improved concurrent connection handling
- Window Functions, CTEs, JSON support for modern query patterns
- Parallel Replication for improved replica performance
Windows Server Compatibility
- Windows Server 2016 (support until 2027)
- Windows Server 2019 (support until 2029)
- Windows Server 2022 (support until 2031)
All versions include Desktop Experience, Active Directory integration, and Hyper-V support. Multiple MariaDB versions spanning 10.x and 11.x series available.
