Virtual tours have increased store transparency and currently attract more visitors from afar

    Reviewed on Sep 02, 2026
    Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

At Northerns Inc., my primary use case for Matterport is offering a product called 'Naiken Labo' (Viewing Lab), where we film our clients' stores in the hope that we can help increase store awareness and transparency.

Matterport is also used by MUJI, a Japanese variety goods store, for things like 'MUJI House,' and in hotel industries, where you can look around the rooms by rotating 360 degrees and walking around them like on Google Maps.

    What is most valuable?

I think Matterport's best feature lies not only in being able to look around 360 degrees and walk through the space but also in the variety and flexibility of features, such as being able to add tags to highlight specific points in the captured space.

In Naiken Labo, as our own project, I go to film our clients' stores, turn them into 3D tour data, and use it to increase visitation rates and the transparency of those stores.

In our project Naiken Labo, by filming with Matterport, I have seen benefits such as increasing customers' visitation rates and making it easier for them to come to the stores.

    What needs improvement?

I am generally satisfied with Matterport, but I feel that if the shooting method were improved a bit, it would become easier to use. The many features are good, but I would like usability to be achieved alongside that, and in the future, I would like it to be a product that anyone can use.

There have not really been any bugs with Matterport, and I have been able to use it very stably, which is good. However, sometimes errors occur consecutively during shooting, so I would like to see that improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Matterport for about three months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There have not really been any bugs with Matterport, and I have been able to use it very stably, which is good. However, sometimes errors occur consecutively during shooting, so I would like to see that improved.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I think Matterport can be rolled out to many different places and business types, so I believe it is a field with a lot of potential.

As for Matterport, its adoption rate is still low in Japan, so I would like to help spread it more in the future. I think it would be better if it were used in many different fields globally, and I think its adoption rate should be increased.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were not using a different solution before.

    How was the initial setup?

When introducing Matterport, I had to buy a camera, which cost 500,000 yen and was quite expensive. However, without that, filming with Matterport would probably only cost about 5,000 yen, so I felt that the low ongoing cost is an attractive point. You can shoot with a smartphone.

    What about the implementation team?

We are not doing anything in particular regarding implementation team structure.

    What was our ROI?

We have not received concrete numbers from our clients, but it seems that one change is that more people are coming from distant locations than before.

We have not produced detailed figures, but despite the relatively low investment, there seems to be considerable demand in many situations, so from my perspective, it is a very helpful service.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We have not received concrete numbers from our clients, but it seems that one change is that more people are coming from distant locations than before.

We have not produced detailed figures, but despite the relatively low investment, there seems to be considerable demand in many situations, so from my perspective, it is a very helpful service.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did not consider other options before choosing Matterport.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend starting without spending too much on initial costs by using only a smartphone and paying the Matterport shooting fee to keep the initial cost low. Then later, for users who want higher quality, they could flexibly respond by buying the proper Matterport camera and so on. I would rate this review an 8 overall.

High-precision scans have enabled accurate digital twins for real-time AR game tracking

    Reviewed on Aug 21, 2026
    Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for Matterport is to create digital twins of rooms for video games. I use Vuforia Engine, which needs the point clouds that Matterport creates with Leica. The process is straightforward. First, I scan the room and pass the scanned room to the software development team for video games. In the video game software, I use these point clouds to create real-time tracking with AR games. I only use Matterport to create twins for video games.

    What is most valuable?

The best features Matterport offers are a high grade of precision, outdoor performance, long range, and superior HDR quality.

Matterport positively impacts my organization because I can perform many scans, and these scans are registered in an app that I can check in real time. I can see the scans and all of these details, which is helpful because it provides an easy way to review them.

I have conducted different scans, and other employees in the offices can check the scans that I completed and assess whether they are good or not. This gives me a lot of flexibility.

    What needs improvement?

The challenges in outdoor performance are that people do not stay in the zone where I am making the scan, and the surface needs to be clear. If I solve those problems, Matterport works well.

Matterport is extremely slow; it takes three or four minutes per single scan. If I need to scan many items, it is really difficult to complete the work. Another problem is that Matterport has zero vibration tolerance; if there is any vibration, the scan becomes unstable. Additionally, the tedious software to edit things is a bit difficult, and Matterport is fragile and heavyweight.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used Matterport for approximately one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    Matterport is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

    The scalability is good.

How are customer service and support?

The customer support is excellent. I would rate the customer support an 8.5.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I tried another competitor, but I do not recall the name. It performed similarly in different software.

    What was our ROI?

I have not seen a return on investment yet because it is still in progress, and I cannot provide relevant metrics at this time.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is not cheap, but that is what it costs.

What other advice do I have?

The precision is good for my needs; it only failed by about one or two centimeters, if I remember correctly, but in my case, that does not matter.

The advice I would give to others considering Matterport is to consider the software, the price, and the function. It depends on what you would like to do with Matterport.

Regarding the AI when I finish the scan, it is really accurate. I would rate this review a 9 overall.

Virtual tours have transformed remote real estate and Airbnb bookings with detailed home walkthroughs

    Reviewed on Aug 20, 2026
    Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

My main use of Matterport is for real estate, for selling or for Airbnb homes.

For clients like those in Hawaii, you are far away from the continent, so it is much easier if you do a Matterport so people, instead of traveling, can visit the homes. Or for Airbnb, people that are going to travel to a home need to make sure it is what they are looking for. Matterport really makes the process more safe because they can see what is going on at the home and if it is really what they want.

The walkthrough is perfect and you are able to look around, up and down. You really have the feeling of what is going on inside the home. I appreciate the new features, including the ability to unfurnish the home. Sometimes you are doing a Matterport for a home that is for sale, but it has all the furniture inside. This feature is really good because you can take all the furniture out of the home.

For the quality control that I do for Space 808 in Hawaii, we create a website for the clients and then we have the link so people can open the property website with all the photos and Matterport together. Sometimes the clients already have a Matterport account, so we just photograph, scan, and then transfer to the client. Here in Brazil, we send the link and they use it on their websites for real estate agents.

One time in Hawaii, we did a Matterport for a coffee house company that, instead of sending a person to check the construction, asked me to scan the construction and send it to them. This way, everybody can visit the construction. I think this is a great idea and it really saves a lot of time and money for the companies.

    What is most valuable?

For real estate, it is a good thing because many people want to visit a home just because they are curious about the home. When you have a Matterport, the curiosity stays there at Matterport. You do not have to go to their home and you save time because people that really saw Matterport and ask for a visit to the home already know what is going on and they are really more interested in the home. You know that the person is really interested in the home. I think you make it more selective.

Another feature that I appreciate is one that I do not think is used a lot in the US, but in South America, they use it on WhatsApp. You can copy the link and send it to clients on the phone on WhatsApp. This is really easy.

I think the measurements feature is really nice. You can order a plant from the home also with measurements. I think we are using that a lot for clients that are selling their home. Everything is really nice.

    What needs improvement?

I think Matterport can improve the walkthrough that is created by AI. You still can feel jumps from one scan to the other. It is better than before, but I think the goal is to have it as if you had a drone inside the home. When you travel with the preview, you can travel around the house feeling as if you are flying without having the sensation that you are jumping from one scan to the other.

Other issues include problems when scanning doorways. If you have a big house with different exits for lanais or pool areas, sometimes you get problems matching the outside and the inside. This is another issue. Additionally, outside areas are problematic. Many clients want to see the outside areas and it is really tricky sometimes, especially if it is very sunny, to make it look good and to match the scans.

I wish Matterport had different kinds of prices for every country. For Brazil or South America, you are charging the same price that you charge in the US, which I think is not fair because here we are not able to charge the same price that people charge in the US. I wish they could use GPS location so you know the people really work in a different country and I wish they could charge different prices because for people that work in South America, it is very expensive. If the price was cheaper for a professional account, I think people would be using more Matterport in the different regions.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Matterport for six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Matterport is very stable. The only thing that happened one time was after I finished a home, suddenly half of my scans disappeared. I do not know what happened, but that is the only time that happened.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is more difficult when you have a larger space, of course. If you have a lot of exits from big rooms, you are going to have problems, and a lot of windows. These are the main problems.

How are customer service and support?

They answer fast, but sometimes there is nothing that they can do. Sometimes you have to go back and reshoot something, especially when you have a problem going from the inside to the outside. That is why you have to have a methodology on what to do because in the beginning you can make mistakes and then you have to go back and redo it.

The thing is, here in South America, I was trying to be one of the guides for Matterport because there is nobody here. You have to speak English. When I have a problem, I have to send emails and speak in English with the technical support. I think they could invest more in South America and have people like me that use Matterport to guide other people and help other photographers that really want to try Matterport.

They offered me a gift card, but I really appreciate talking about Matterport and I even tried to get feedback from them to work for Matterport here in South America because I really felt that there is missing technical support here in South America. I think it is a huge market, but you need somebody here to try to help and teach other people and show other clients how powerful Matterport is.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Matterport was the first company for a virtual tour that I worked with and I think it is the only one that I am going to keep using because it is really the best. I am a photographer, so if I am not doing the virtual tour, I am photographing the homes.

    How was the initial setup?

It was easy. The only thing is I first started working with Matterport in Hawaii, and it is much easier there. When I moved back to Brazil and started working in Brazil, it is really expensive for the Brazilians and for South America. In Hawaii, we shoot at least three Matterports per week with just one photographer. Here in Brazil, sometimes one a month, because of the cost and because people are afraid.

    What was our ROI?

I think the example I mentioned really worked out. But as I said, in Brazil and South America, people are not used to working with Matterport and I think they believe it is really pricey. In Hawaii, we use it a lot and it really works very nicely. I do not have numbers, but I remember selling homes from a distance. Somebody from Canada bought a home looking at Matterport. I think for Airbnb, I tried to call the numbers here in Brazil, and the people that have Airbnb, I create a QR code for the virtual tour, and I think a regular Airbnb home gets at least a visit a day of Matterport. I think it really helps for Airbnb. But people are not used to it because if you think about it here in Brazil, I think only 2% of the Airbnb homes invest in professional photography here in Brazil.

What other advice do I have?

I think that you should try to photograph. It is easy. You just have to get used to the tool. But I think it is really interesting and I think you can use it for a lot of different things, not only real estate and hotels and everything. I think that gives to the client more security of what they are going to go through. I think the advice is to stay on Matterport because I think it is the best company for a virtual tour.

I think the only issue is it is not every camera that can do the scans outside. I know because my clients are always asking. They want to do the outside areas. If the technology can improve for the outside, it would be fantastic. My review rating for Matterport is 10 out of 10.

Virtual tours have transformed coastal real estate marketing and now triple remote buyer visits

    Reviewed on Jul 31, 2026
    Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for Matterport is with real estate agencies on the Andalusian coast, primarily to create virtual tours for remote sales or at least remote lead generation for foreign clients.

In a recent real estate transaction, as well as in others, luxury real estate agencies normally ask for a photographic report and drone work, because these houses usually have very interesting exteriors. They also ask for a virtual tour with Matterport, which is used basically for virtual tours, although sometimes it is used later to download floor plans.

    What is most valuable?

Matterport's valuable features are basically the ability to know where it is, the ability to do a very large stitch, and also the possibility of creating more plans and multiple levels of a multilevel building.

Matterport has been a technology that has allowed me to offer one more service and even sometimes to attract clients who directly asked for Matterport service, with the brand being very well known, even among people who are not in the audiovisual sector. It has also allowed me to work with large luxury property sales platforms that directly ask for a Matterport link to embed on their website. Matterport is basically an international standard that allows, in and of itself, to make contact with customers, create new customers and retain them, and offer cutting-edge technology.

Work efficiency is key with Matterport because the report done with Matterport is done at the same time as the photos and drone work, since the home staging is done only once for everything. Then, I notice that I am delivering a product that I charge the same as I charged for the photographic report, but in reality, Matterport does all the work autonomously and there is no more field work than those few minutes needed to do the field captures. In terms of lead generation, I cannot give a disaggregated metric, but aggregated with the professional images plus the virtual tour, we are basically talking about, according to what my clients tell me, tripling visits.

    What needs improvement?

I think Matterport could be improved with better integration with CAD systems. The quality of the output files of Matterport could have higher quality and better integration with platforms used by design professionals, such as architects and engineers, so that they can use it in a very reliable way. For example, they could use it to do as-built surveys, to do building pathology analysis, and to detect movements. This, of course, requires integration and communication between Matterport and other companies in the sector.

I think that the automatic removal of the camera's reflections would be an addition that could be implemented directly in an automatic way or the possibility of manual corrections.

For how long have I used the solution?

In my current field, I have been working for basically 30 years, with artificial intelligence for the last approximately four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I consider Matterport to be absolutely stable; it has never given me any problem.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I have not had any relevant experience regarding the scalability of Matterport because of the size of my business, but I can say that the device is shareable. The equipment can be rented out to trusted people, it can be used by several people and it can be used with several platforms. This can indeed be a way to scale, but it has not been the core of my business.

How are customer service and support?

My experience with Matterport's customer support has been generally positive, as they respond quickly and know the product perfectly, providing very quick solutions. I remember that at the beginning I had doubts when I had to configure, but normally it has not been necessary. However, I do remember that at the beginning they were very efficient.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used GigaPan before Matterport. GigaPan is a tool that lets you take high-resolution photos, that is, photos made by stitching different frames together. Obviously, GigaPan is called that because they sell the idea that you can, for example, take a telephoto lens and shoot a landscape with so many small telephoto images and then stitch them to create an image of virtually infinite resolution.

The use case that was used indoors or in architecture was more the spherical photography, that is, 360 x 180, and the work is very manual, involving several programs, specifically KRpano and a stitching program, which also has its cost. But above all, it is manual work and subject to stitching errors when the photos are not taken properly. If the photos are not taken properly, many times it is not possible to retake them. Meanwhile, with Matterport, I feel reassured because the device and the online ecosystem ensure that everything goes well from the field capture to the final product.

    What was our ROI?

I notice a return on investment using Matterport, with time saving being significant. When I worked with GigaPan, I had to do the image stitching and professionals, when they stitch images that were not taken by them and if there are parallax problems, problems always arise. Thus, you always consider the option of doing it yourself or at least having the person who does the capture also do the stitching. The metric for Matterport is obviously a time saving, because the stitching is done automatically.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The recurring costs for Matterport are reasonable, with the costs of acquiring the device, especially the latest one, the Matterport Pro2, being more than €5,000. Obviously, one always hopes that the device can become cheaper. However, the monthly expenses are amortized with client payments.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Before choosing Matterport, I actually considered using Matterport platform with a Ricoh camera, the Theta, and other types of cameras, but in the end, since I came from GigaPan, which at least had high quality, I did not want to lower the quality. I decided to buy the device and pay for the platform to have everything done with high-quality captures from the beginning.

What other advice do I have?

I would mainly advise other professionals to buy the latest equipment available and to wait maybe until offers come out. Sometimes offers with discounts appear, and you can even find something second-hand, but always go for the latest device because Matterport is a product that will last many years, so it is worth making an investment with all the functions up to date.

I think it should also be said that the design of Matterport has become very nice lately, as they have improved the quality of the lenses and also the size, with increased quality and reduced size of the equipment, which is always appreciated in field work. I would rate this product nine out of ten.

Use any other platform available. The annual carrying fees are wild!

What do you like best about the product?
I don't like anything about Matterport. Nothing.
What do you dislike about the product?
How much time do you have? Seriously, though, it's a terrible platform, only made worse by its acquisition by Costar. It's always been a walled garden where you pay for unit scans, then pay an annual carrying cost and you don't actually own your scans and can't migrate them. They require special equipment, etc... I would urge you to use any other platform available. Customer service is nonexistent. Anyone you do manage to get a hold of is rude and dismissive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It doesn't solve any of my problems and has actually become a massive source of problems. Their practices are extortionate. Congress should get involved.
