Overview
Operational response depends on connecting detected problems to the processes responsible for acting on them. This offer links technical detection, impact and probable root cause to the operational incident lifecycle. Dynatrace uses Davis Problems, root cause analysis, topology, affected entities, SLOs, logs, metrics and traces to provide evidence and impact context, and ServiceNow Incident, Problem and Change processes support opening, routing, updating and recording the resolution, with Service Operations Workspace and CMDB supporting operations and context. On AWS, the monitored estate includes Amazon EKS, Amazon ECS, Amazon EC2, AWS Lambda, Amazon RDS, Elastic Load Balancing and Amazon EC2 Auto Scaling. Amazon CloudWatch metrics, logs and alarms and AWS Health events complement Dynatrace detection with AWS-native service and account signals. The closing half of the loop runs on AWS: Amazon EventBridge receives the Dynatrace finding or the ServiceNow approval, AWS Lambda normalizes and routes it, and AWS Systems Manager Automation executes the parameterized runbook against the affected resource under a least-privilege AWS IAM role, with AWS Step Functions used when remediation requires multiple ordered steps with error handling. A defined Correlation ID, tag or management zone mapping and clear record lifecycle rules prevent duplicate handling and route records to the appropriate CI, assignment group and urgency. Remediation runs only after the approval path defined in ServiceNow Change has been satisfied; execution output is written back to the incident as evidence and AWS CloudTrail records the API activity for audit. Where a capability is not available, documented alternatives apply, including direct event-to-incident without ITOM, tag-based routing, manual runbook execution from the incident, or notification only through Amazon SNS.
Highlights
- Approved remediation executed on AWS: Amazon EventBridge carries the finding or the ServiceNow approval, and AWS Systems Manager Automation runbooks act on Amazon EC2, Amazon ECS, Amazon EKS and Amazon RDS resources under least-privilege AWS IAM roles, with AWS Step Functions for multi-step sequences.
- Davis Problems and root cause analysis provide affected entities, topology and impact context, while Correlation ID and tag or management zone mapping prevent duplication and route each record to the correct CI, assignment group and urgency in ServiceNow Incident, Problem and Change.
- Full auditability of automated action: execution output is written back to the ServiceNow record as evidence, AWS CloudTrail provides the API audit trail, and AWS Health events plus Amazon CloudWatch alarms add AWS-native service and account signals to the incident.
