Overview
The Thoughtworks and Certus Maximo Migration and Managed Services Accelerator addresses the critical need for organizations in industries such as transmission, distribution, water utilities, and renewables using IBM Maximo Asset Management 7.x on-premises to migrate before the September 30, 2025 end-of-support deadline. Security, compliance, and operational resilience are essential requirements for asset management systems, and our solution accelerates the migration to AWS, while enabling customers to retain control of customization, security, and compliance.
Our Maximo Migration and Managed Services Accelerator is a fully managed migration from Maximo 7.x to the customer's chosen Maximo Application Suite (MAS) version running on a Red Hat OpenShift cluster on AWS (ROSA). This provides the significant benefits of a resilient and secure containerized environment, without customers having to manage the complex overheads and learning curve of a new continuous deployment operational model. MAS on ROSA ensures centralized governance, enhanced security, and compliance, while enabling integration with AWS services for advanced data analytics and integration capabilities.
To deliver this solution, Thoughtworks partners with Certus, IBM-qualified Maximo specialists, to assess your Maximo deployment to understand your current state and future needs, taking into account your specific regulatory, compliance, and security requirements, and your unique customized configuration. Together with your SMEs, we will build a migration plan to deploy MAS on ROSA to your existing AWS environment, or a new AWS landing zone with Thoughtworks' enterprise-grade landing zone solution, with the required security and resilience controls to meet your obligations. We'll work to complete the migration, testing, and cut-over to your new MAS cluster with minimal disruption to your business operations.
Post-migration, our joint team provides an ongoing full-stack managed service with a clear support and escalation model, combining Thoughtworks' AWS operational and architectural capabilities with Certus' specialist skills and deep asset management expertise. We ensure your infrastructure remains secure, resilient, and properly backed up to meet your recovery objectives, and the underlying ROSA and MAS upgrade cycle is managed with minimal disruption to your asset management teams.
Our solution reduces the complexity of Maximo end-of-support challenges for customers through a fully-managed migration to MAS on AWS, and migrating to AWS unlocks significant new opportunities. Thoughtworks and Certus can work with your team to identify how you can leverage AWS data and AI services across multiple use-cases, such as emissions reporting, predictive maintenance, and operational analytics, unlocked with asset information on AWS. Our partnership enables a journey beyond simply migrating Maximo, towards a transformation from enterprise asset management to asset investment planning, leveraging the wealth of data from Maximo and other systems to drive business outcomes.
Engagement steps:
- Thoughtworks and Certus will schedule an initial consultation workshop with their team of specialists to understand your security, operational resilience, compliance needs, and business objectives.
- Our team will provide an initial proposal, including timelines and commercial details, with a clear separation of responsibilities between infrastructure and application teams.
- Then our team will begin the initial assessment phase, combining Thoughtworks' MAP assessment methodology with Certus' Platform Design Service to evaluate your current environment.
- Thoughtworks will deploy the AWS infrastructure through an enterprise-grade landing zone and ROSA, while Certus will handle the Maximo application migration, working in parallel to accelerate delivery.
- Once the migration and testing is complete, we will work with your teams to perform customer acceptance testing, fine-tuning, and cut-over.
- Our joint team will provide ongoing operational management and support of the AWS environment and underlying MAS ROSA cluster in conjunction with MAS application support, with clear escalation paths for infrastructure and application issues.
