Am I charged the software fee when my instance is stopped?
Software charges apply per running instance-hour. A stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software fee. Stopped instances may still incur separate AWS charges, such as storage for attached volumes. Those AWS fees are billed by AWS, not part of this software rate.
How does moving to a larger instance type change my software cost?
The software fee is tied to the instance type you run. Choosing a type with more CPU, memory, storage, or accelerators carries a higher hourly rate. The change takes effect when you launch the new type. You are not locked into one type; you pay the rate matching whatever you run.
