Compute-optimized (c-series), memory-optimized (r- and x-series), storage-optimized (i-series), and general-purpose (m- and t-series) families are all available. You select the instance that fits your workload; the software runs on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 16 with Apache Tomcat preinstalled.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
The hourly rate covers the software license bundle: SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 16 with Apache Tomcat 9 and OpenJDK 21 preinstalled and preconfigured. Tomcat starts automatically at boot. You deploy your Java web application by copying WAR files to the instance. This software charge is separate from the underlying AWS compute cost.
The software charge meters running instance-hours. When you fully stop an instance, the hourly software charge stops accruing. Powered-off instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but the license itself bills only while the instance runs.
Each dimension maps to one arm64 instance type billed per hour. If you move your workload to another instance size, your hourly software rate changes to match that instance type. You are billed at the rate for whichever instance is actively running.

Usage instructions
Use the image to start an instance of your choice in Amazon EC2. Once the instance is running connect to it using a Secure Shell (SSH) client as 'ec2-user' and the configured SSH key. You may connect the instance to the SUSE Customer Center (SCC) or the region local SUSE operated update infrastructure using your existing SUSE registration key. Use 'SUSEConnect -r' or 'registercloudguest -r', respectively to enable your instance to receive maintenance updates and security fixes.
