The AMI helps reduce manual hardening effort and configuration drift across AWS accounts and environments. Infrastructure teams can deploy the same reviewed baseline behind their own network controls, identity model, deployment pipeline, observability stack, backup policy, and workload configuration.

This image is built for x86-64 EC2 instances and supports x86-64 EC2 instance families and x86-64-native application stacks.
Deploy and Operate with Confidence
The image is ready for use when launched. Citadel recommends AWS Systems Manager Session Manager (SSM) for administrative access whenever possible so SSH does not need to be exposed to the public Internet.
If SSH is required, use the ec2-user account, your selected EC2 key pair, and tightly scoped network access.

You pay by the hour for this hardened Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 image. Pricing is not tiered. Instead, each dimension maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type, such as t3.micro, m6i.16xlarge, or r6a.metal. You pick the instance that matches the compute, memory, or storage you need. The hourly software rate scales with instance size and family. Smaller instances carry a lower hourly rate; larger and specialized instances (compute, memory, GPU, or bare metal) carry higher rates. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs.

What does one billed unit represent for each pricing dimension?
Each dimension bills per hour for one running EC2 instance of that type. One unit equals one hour that a single instance runs. If you launch three instances of the same type, you pay the hourly rate three times, once per running instance.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or powered off?
The software rate meters running hours only. A stopped or powered-off instance stops accruing this hourly software charge. You may still owe separate AWS fees for attached storage, but that is billed by AWS, not by this software license.
What does this listing cover, and what falls outside it?
The listing provides a hardened Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 operating-system image. Verification covers the declared OS baseline as packaged for the release. Your applications, cloud account configuration, and any changes made after deployment stay outside this image-level scope.

Using Hardened Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9
Connect to Your Instance
We recommend using AWS Systems Manager Session Manager (SSM) whenever possible. It provides a secure way to access your instance without exposing SSH to the public Internet.
If SSH is enabled, limit port 22 in your security group to your trusted IP address whenever possible. For production environments, we recommend deploying the instance inside a private VPC and using SSM or another controlled access method.
Use the documentation to review the image's security baseline, applied controls, validation results, and any documented exceptions.
