Self-hosted Matomo web analytics on Ubuntu 24.04 with Docker Compose, MariaDB, Nginx, first-boot credential generation, hourly archiving, helper commands, backup support, and optional HTTPS setup. Built for fast deployment on AWS by Code Creator. This product has charges associated with it for the provision and deployment of the application and AMI support.
Matomo Private Web Analytics Self Hosted Server by Code Creator provides a ready to launch private analytics server for businesses, developers, agencies, educators, and teams that want website analytics while keeping control of their data.
This AMI deploys latest Matomo on Ubuntu using Docker Compose, MariaDB, and an Nginx reverse proxy.
The server includes Code Creator first boot automation that generates fresh database credentials for each new instance, writes customer setup instructions, starts the Matomo stack, and provides helper commands for URLs, service status, logs, restarts, backups, archiving status, and optional HTTPS setup.
Hourly background archiving is preconfigured to improve report performance after the Matomo setup wizard is completed. Matomo recommends hourly auto archiving for better report processing on active sites.
Customers can launch the AMI, wait about 60 to 90 seconds, open the public IP in a browser, complete the Matomo setup wizard, create their own Matomo administrator account, add a website, and begin collecting analytics.
This is a repackaged open source software product wherein additional charges are applied for the deployment of the application and AMI support and compliance.

You pay by the hour for the software running on your chosen Amazon EC2 instance. Each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type, so pricing scales with the compute size you pick. Smaller types like t3.nano and t2.micro suit light workloads. Larger types like m5.24xlarge, r5.24xlarge, and c5.4xlarge give more compute, memory, or storage for heavier use. Compute-optimized (c-family), memory-optimized (r-family), general-purpose (m- and t-families), storage-dense (d-family), and GPU (g-family) options let you match hardware to your needs. Software charges accrue only while an instance runs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Am I charged for the software when my EC2 instance is stopped?
Software charges accrue only while the instance runs. A stopped or powered-off instance stops the hourly software meter. You may still pay separate AWS fees for storage attached to a stopped instance, but the software licence meters running time only.
What determines which hourly rate I pay?
Your chosen Amazon EC2 instance type sets the rate. Each dimension maps to one instance type, from t3.nano up to m5.24xlarge. Larger types with more compute, memory, or storage carry different hourly software charges. You pick the type that fits your workload.
How do I move to a bigger instance as my traffic grows?
Each instance type is billed as its own hourly dimension. To scale up, you launch the software on a type with more compute, memory, or storage. The hourly rate changes to match the new type. Charges follow the instance you actually run.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
