Larger instances offer more compute, memory, or storage and cost more per hour. Software charges add to standard AWS infrastructure fees.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
One unit is one hour of running a single EC2 instance with the Moodle image installed. You pay the software charge for each hour that instance runs. Each instance you launch meters its own hours separately and adds to your total.
The hourly software charge applies only while the instance runs. Fully stopped instances do not accrue software charges. Underlying AWS fees, such as storage for the instance volume, may still apply while the instance is stopped, but those are separate from the software charge.
The instance type you pick drives the rate, not any feature tier. All options run the same Moodle image. Types with more compute, memory, storage, or GPU capacity carry a higher hourly rate. Your bill combines this software charge with the standard AWS charge for that instance type.
