Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour based on the AWS EC2 instance size you launch. Each dimension maps to one instance type, and pricing scales with the compute resources that instance provides. The t2 options (micro, small, medium, large, xlarge) are burstable general-purpose sizes. The m3 options (large, xlarge, 2xlarge) are general-purpose sizes. The c4 options (large, xlarge, 2xlarge) are compute-oriented sizes. You choose one instance type to run the same packaged MySQL software on Windows Server 2019. Software charges accrue only while the instance runs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
You pay an hourly software charge tied to the compute size you launch. Each dimension maps to one AWS EC2 instance type. Larger sizes carry more CPU and memory, so their hourly rate reflects those resources. You run the same packaged MySQL software on Windows Server 2019 regardless of size.
Software charges accrue only while the instance runs. A fully stopped instance stops the hourly software meter. You may still pay underlying AWS storage fees for the attached volume, but the packaged MySQL software meters running time only.
Each instance type bills at its own hourly rate. When you launch a different size, charges follow that size's rate for the hours it runs. There is no automatic upgrade — you choose the instance type, and billing tracks whichever one is running.
