Overview
Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT Gateway provides an additional layer of security when exchanging business-critical or sensitive data with trading partners. It allows you to keep file sharing services (e.g. FTP/S, SFTP, HTTP/S servers) and documents safely in your private/internal network. With GoAnywhere Gateway, no inbound ports need to be opened into your private network, which is essential for compliance with PCI DSS, HIPAA, GDPR, HITECH, SOX, GLBA and state privacy laws.
GoAnywhere Gateway helps keep file sharing secure by:
- Not allowing incoming ports to be opened into the private network, which reduces the risk of intrusion
- Not storing sensitive data files in the DMZ
- Keeping user credentials, certificates, and keys safely in the private network
- Supporting FTP/S, SFTP, SCP, HTTP/S and AS2 file transfer protocols
- Hiding the locations and identities of internal systems
- Not requiring any special hardware components; it is a software-only solution

Usage instructions
- Log in to the EC2 where GoAnywhere Gateway is installed.
- Open a command line or terminal.
- Change the working directory to the directory where GoAnywhere Gateway is installed (/opt/Fortra/GoAnywhere_Gateway/).
- Run the command './gagateway license' and follow the instructions displayed on the screen to request a license.
- Once your license is activated on the Customer Portal, download the license to your EC2 and copy the file to the GoAnywhere Gateway installation directory
- Restart Gateway by running './gagateway stop' then './gagateway start' from GoAnywhere Gateway installation directory

What do you like best about the product?
I love the ease of use of GoAnywhere MFT and how robust the language is. The file transfer engine works really well, which is important for our operations. The product has a lot of uptime with no downtime, which is crucial for us as we rely heavily on it for managing enterprise-wide file transfers. Also, the setup process was fairly simple despite the networking aspect.
What do you dislike about the product?
Oh, I think that the support and support site could use a little help. It was a little more robust, and it seems like it has gotten maybe more difficult to find information when I do need help with something. Most of the limitations that I run across are just developmental type issues because it does attach to so many different platforms like Azure and SharePoint that I understand that some stuff has to be built out before it works flawessly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
GoAnywhere MFT helps us manage enterprise-wide file transfers and push and pull files from our EMR with great uptime. I love the ease of use and robust language.

What do you like best about the product?
The user interface is intuitive and easy to use. It integrates well with our other systems. The price is extraordinary given the power of this tool. I have been using it for over 10 years and it just keeps getting better. We have had no performance issues with our transfers.

We have had some issues with support being slow.

What do you like best about the product?
The system offers a wide range of modules and features, such as a web client portal for collaborating with external users, automation functionality to process and move files, and various connector integrations. I also appreciate the quality of support, whether I’m asking general questions or need technical assistance. The administrator portal is simple and straightforward to use and configure. Performance is another strong point for me as well, since I’ve had very few issues related to performance.
What do you dislike about the product?
While the system has a lot of reporting features, many of the reports are static and not customizable. More could be done to expand reporting options, including user and admin reports as well as access reporting.
Another area is the Web Client. It previously had an applet feature that allowed users to upload folder structures along with their files, but it seems this is no longer supported in modern browsers. This is something I would like to see addressed and fixed.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Currently, the key purpose of this tool is using the Web Client to enable collaboration with external users. The ability to create templates when syncing internal users, as well as to create external users, makes provisioning and user management much easier.
One of the main functionalities tied into GoAnywhere MFT is its strong automation between cloud connectors and internal server file locations. This allows us to process and automate file transfers and reduce a lot of manual effort, whether that’s through cloud connectors, predefined SFTP connections, or calling native functionality such as PowerShell scripts and/or API calls.

What do you like best about the product?
Maintenance is very straightforward, and once you’ve patched the MFT and Gateways the first time, the process is easy to repeat. Day-to-day management is also simple, and the controls are intuitive. I especially like the security controls and Automatic IP Block List. We also used the IP filter to only allow know IPs of vendors to connect our platform.
What do you dislike about the product?
The GoAnywhere console can take a little getting used to because there are a lot of menus and submenus. However, like most enterprise software, it becomes much easier to navigate with regular use. Once you're familiar with the layout, finding what you need is straightforward
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
GoAnywhere handles our managed file transfers between banks, vendors, and file directories across our environment and in the cloud. Previously we were using disjointed process to transfer and move files which added time and overhead to the process and produced irregular results.
