    Commvault Cloud Rewind (Formerly Appranix)

     Info
    Sold by: Appranix
Commvault Cloud Rewind (formerly known as Appranix) provides continuous discovery and protection of your applications running in AWS complete with their configuration data and any dependencies -- enabling you to revert your full cloud environment to its last known-good state. With Cloud Rewind you get the unprecedented ability to turn back the clock to a point-in-time before a breach, outage, or configuration change occurred and return to business as usual.

    Overview

Commvault Cloud Rewind goes beyond backup and recovery of simple compute instances, filesystems, and databases to offer end-to-end protection of complex, composable, cloud-native applications. It enables automated, point-in-time recovery of full application environments, complete with configuration data and metadata. The result is true cloud-native cyber resilience with rapid rebuild capabilities that minimize downtime, drastically reduce MTTR, and enable faster restoration of business operations.

Cloud Rewind continuously discovers and maps the dependencies of cloud resources within your application environment. It protects all the discovered configurations, dependencies, and application data with configurable policies to align with your organizations RPO requirements. This includes VPCs, subnets, load balancers, security groups, route tables and other important cloud constructs. This data is stored in an isolated, air-gapped tenant managed by Commvault for added security and greater recoverability.

After an application outage or disruption, organizations can rapidly recover applications or rebuild entire application environments on-demand with customized precision. Cloud Rewind uses native AWS CloudFormation Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) to automate orchestrated, point-in-time restores of application environments. Recovery can be done across Availability Zones, Regions, and accounts, providing flexibility to restore operations faster or use Cloud Rewind to test recovery of live production environments to improve your organizations cyber readiness.

Commvault Cloud Rewind is available as an AWS-based SaaS offering so you can easily get started in minutes without the need to deploy or manage infrastructure.

Provides operational efficiencies and recovers virtual instances quickly

    Reviewed on Aug 05, 2024
    Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

For our clients, we use the solution to protect their virtual instances and instantly recover them in the event of a compromise.

How has it helped my organization?

The solution has provided operational efficiencies.

    What is most valuable?

The platform's most effective feature is quickly recovering virtual instances into a separate environment.

    What needs improvement?

They could add more intelligence features in the workflow through automation, removing more of the human element. Additionally, improvements in the reporting features would be beneficial.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Appranix Cloud Application Resilience for about one year and a half.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Even though it's an emerging technology, it has proven to be mature and very stable.

I rate the stability an eight out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have maybe three customers for Appranix Cloud Application Resilience in larger organizations. It is scalable. I rate the scalability an eight.

How are customer service and support?

We handle initial support for our clients and then pass on more complex issues to the provider.

How would you rate customer service and support?

    Positive

    How was the initial setup?

The number of executives involved in product maintenance can vary greatly depending on specific requirements.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I rate the product pricing a seven. The additional cost is cloud storage, which the public cloud provider charges.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Appranix Cloud Application Resilience a nine out of ten.

Cross-region application resilience and recovery in a single click

    Reviewed on Nov 05, 2019
Review from a verified AWS customer

Appranix solves the basic problem of backup and recovery in the local region very similar to traditional datacenter. However, with Appranix, we are able to achieve a complete application recovery along with VPC configurations, security groups, and other networking configurations as easily as a single click for a complete business application. We feel we could use Appranix capabilities for a complete cloud region failure recovery or even for distributing production environments across to a different region in another country.

Compared to traditional disaster recovery software vendors trying to cloud wash and offer services on the cloud, Appranix is a true cloud-native disaster recovery service. Appranix doesn’t need any expensive data management infrastructure software on top of the cloud infrastructure services. A lot of new cloud users misunderstand how cloud platforms work when they move from a datacenter based operating model. For instance, a single external storage volume from a storage system could be shared among many virtual machines making it hard to protect a specific virtual machine and applications running on it. In the cloud IaaS world, a single external storage volume is attached to a single virtual machine. This fundamental change offers a unique opportunity to control how applications are protected and recovered. Appranix only uses the built-in cloud-native services to protect our cloud environments composed of our EC2 virtual machines, EBS external storage, Security groups, Load Balancers, VPCs, DHCP options, Customer Gateways, Internet Gateways, etc. Appranix automatically discovers and allows a cloud assembly creation to segment application boundaries for various tiers. You can create tier-1 business-critical applications or other tiers based on application SLOs. Appranix combines backup-as-a-service and DR-as-a-Service together for the entire cloud application environment using an environment time machine. Now, Appranix makes it much easier for our cloud operations team to provide app-centric resiliency with the capability to go back in time and recover the entire application environment in the primary region of the cloud or an alternative region to recover from any type of disruption or a disaster.
